I really enjoyed this movie; but then that’s most probably because I love music in general, but more specifically Electronic Dance Music in which this film is saturated from start to finish. This is unsurprising when you consider the premise of the film is set around the main character, Paul, a young and budding Parisian DJ who sets off following his passion for EDM by submersing his life in music and by producing his own tracks which he then plays at numerous gigs around Paris’s thriving nightclub scene.
Set in the early 90s when French EDM was booming and producing artists like Daft Punk and Cassius, we follow this ambitious young DJ as he strives to make a life and livelihood out of his passion for music to the backdrop of buzzing club-scenes and the affiliated drug culture. We watch as the main protagonist surfs a wave of musical, relationship and drug highs throughout the movie; but as we know, what goes up will probably come down as Paul has to comes to terms with the lose of a close friend along with his issues with relationships and cocaine and is forced to re-evaluate his chosen career path for a more ‘normal’ lifestyle. This film throws into question, is it better to have tried and failed then never to have tried at all? Good movie with a cracking soundtrack. Worth a watch.
