A larger shop on Berwick Street, in the heart of Soho, and a new store in the coveted Coal Drops Yard at King’s Cross, brings the brand’s UK stores to four and with over 200 stockists in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, Universal Works continues to be the choice for the discerning male customer across the globe.

Launched in 2009 by ex-Paul Smith, David Keyte, Universal Works was born at David’s kitchen table, in Nottingham when he decided to follow his passion to create real, honest clothing based on fit and good design, though never over designed.

The store at 26 Berwick Street replaces the previous shop on the same street. The new 1,314 sq ft shop is twice the size of the previous space and enables the brand to show a larger selection of its collections to its loyal and new customers.

Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross is a new 100,000 sq ft development which will officially open later this month (October 26). With 50 new stores, restaurants and cafes, Universal Works will be amongst a desirable list of impressive brands large, small and independent.

David said: “We champion skilled, small-scale production and produce garments in the right place, both in the UK and overseas, working only with factories we trust, admire and are proud to be associated with.

“Just as important as the garments we create is the shopping experience. It’s important to us that this is an enjoyable process for our customers and that’s not just while they are in our stores, but also where they are located. We choose to be in vibrant areas that are full of energy and culture which is why Soho and King’s Cross are perfect for us.”

Nottingham-based national retail and leisure commercial property agent, Box Property, secured both premises on behalf of Universal Works.

Cofounder Ben Tebbutt said: “Universal Works is a cool and hugely successful brand which hails from Nottingham. David has built it up with authenticity and a real desire for simplistic style.

“As with all of its shops, the two new sites in central London have been carefully chosen to ensure the brand is close to its customers, can accommodate growth and the surrounding area aligns with the brands culture and values.

“David’s product and passion are the driving force behind the brand’s success and I wish him all the best in the bigger store in Soho and within the eclectic Coal Drops Yard.”

David added: “Box Property know us well and continue to find us distinctive properties that are an important part of our journey. Our Berwick Street store is already open and we are excited to be part of Kings Cross.”

In addition to Universal Works, Box Property works with a myriad of national brands including Clean Cut Kitchen, 200 Degrees, West Cornwall Pasty Company, Bunk Bar, Iberico, Cow Clothing, QD Stores and Ideal Care Homes.
