A living fruit and vegetable man, made up of 25 different fruits and vegetables will be visiting the Nottinghamshire County Show to share the importance of healthy living and eco-friendly gardening with families and children.
The prestigious county show will be the first agricultural show in the UK to host the 8ft stilted character – named Froojamaflip – who partners with his friend Fred to create an interactive and engaging new walkabout act.
The pair will be performing at the popular county show on May 12 and 13 at Newark Showground, which is preparing to be the best show yet as thousands of visitors are expected to experience adrenaline-packed horse-back displays, taste local food produce and see lots of wonderful farmyard animals up close and personal.
Leanne Taylor, director at Curious Creations, creators of Froojamaflip said: “We are really excited that the Nottinghamshire County Show is going to be one of the first shows to have Froojamaflip and Fred. The fun-loving character is handmade and painted with a stunning eye for detail – it really is a must see.
“A series of animatronics bring the costume to life including a mouse which pops out in and out, a crying onion and a cheeky wriggly worm, as well as a few other surprises!
“The pair are a great unique duo who love to share the importance of healthy eating, buying locally and the natural environment, sharing their stories of the garden including learning about bees, butterflies and bananas! We are sure that children are going to love them!”
The importance of a healthy diet will also be demonstrated by home economist Teresa Bovey who will show how busy people can make delicious, healthy meals with minimum effort.
Teresa said: “I am incredibly passionate about cooking well, eating high-quality healthy food and living a balanced lifestyle. At the show, I will be demonstrating healthy and satisfying ways to lose weight and filling a plate using farm fresh vegetables.
“I enjoy working with local government initiatives to promote healthy eating and encourage cookery skills in children, so I am really excited to get stuck in and have some fun in the kitchen at this year’s Nottinghamshire County Show.”
This year will also see a host of demonstrations from producers and industry experts in the food experience area, including Linda Hewett, who will be running the children’s area and teaching children how to make vegetable soup. Prue Leith’s Northern Outreach trainer Andrea Wallace and local butcher Johnny Pusztai will also be giving demonstrations.
Horticulture expert John Stirland is set to be the key speaker in the food experience area and will be advising people on how to grow their own vegetables, as well as answering Q&As from the crowd relating to gardening, vegetable growing, soil preparation and pest and disease control.
George Taylor at the Nottinghamshire County Show said: “We are really excited about everything we have on offer in our food experience area. It’s going to be the healthiest set up we have ever had. The food experience area is a huge part of the show and it is really important to us that we highlight local produce and food businesses in Nottinghamshire.
“Encouraging children to learn about agriculture, the importance of healthy living and educating them on where food comes from are all incredibly important to us, and we hope to do all three at this year’s Show.
“This year is going to be jam-packed full of activities, with so much for families to do both indoors and outdoors and we are expecting a record number of trade and agricultural stalls and food stands designed to tempt everyone’s taste buds!”
More than 100 local producers, traders, and food specialists will be attending the show including Lime Tree Pantry Foods, Hartland Pies Ltd and Ryan Jepson Cheeses.
The 2018 show will be held on 12 & 13 May. Advanced tickets cost £10 for adults (£15 on the gate), members and children under 17 go free.
