As we enter the summer holidays Broadway has the children covered in case, dare I say it, the weather takes a turn for the worse…
As well as the usual FAMILY MOVIE MATINEES every Saturday and BRINGING UP BABY on Tuesday 12th, they are also continuing to show DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (3D) daily until Thursday 7th and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 every day until Thursday 14th. From Friday 15th right up until Thursday 29th THE UNBEATABLES will be showing, definitely one for any little footie fans out there. This animation follows the story of Amadeo a table football champ and his rivalry with Flash, voiced by Rupert Grint and Anthony Head respectively. The eagerly awaited EARTH TO ECHO starts from Friday 29th; this homage to 80’s sci-fi adventure is probably not suitable for younger viewers though, not because it is scary as such just because the dialogue is likely to go over their heads, best suited for over 10’s.
It’s not all about the kids in August though…
Based on Stefan Zweig’s novel Journey into the Past, A PROMISE, starts on the 1st and will be showing just for a week. It is French director Patrice Leconte’s first English speaking film; this pre-First World War romantic drama stars the man with the legendary voice, Alan Rickman. A further offering from a French director comes in the form of MOOD INDIGO which is Michel Gondry’s (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) latest fantastical masterpiece. This rom –com set in the beautiful city of Paris stars the equally beautiful Audrey Tautou, this is definitely one to see on the big screen, it will be showing until Thurs 14th.
Moving further afield, THE GOLDEN DREAM, is set in South America and follows three teenagers as they try to enter the US illegally. This tense and gripping film is a debut for director Diego Quemada-Diez, Broadway is only showing this for the first week of August, so catch it quick. This dystopian crime drama is set in the near future and scarily portrays life in Australia following the collapse of the western economic system.
