Christmas gets underway with festive skating at the National Ice Centre with the official light switch on Saturday 25 November while Santa will be welcoming visitors to his magical grotto in December.
There’s loads of music concerts, top family shows and elite sporting contests coming up at Nottingham Motorpoint Arena to put a sparkle in the festive calendar and provide that all important gifting inspiration. Hip-hop royalty Ice Cube & Cypress Hill; living legend Tom Jones and world-class rock act Killer Queen bring the noise in December with the spectacular arena-sized pantomime Peter Pan, Strictly Come Dancing Live and much more in store for 2024.
Festive Skating
The festive ice rink will be looking magical this Christmas surrounded by twinkling lights and a huge Christmas tree for a wonderful festive skate. It all starts at 2.30pm on Saturday 25 November when a surprise guest turns on the magical Christmas lights before the first festive skating session begins. A special festive character skate on Saturday 2 December will see elves, snowman, reindeer and a gingerbread man joining skaters on the ice while the Princesses and Superheroes magical fancy dress skating party with music, balloons and a sprinkle of fairy dust on 30 December completes the festive ice season.
Santa’s Grotto
Santa is also popping by this December so children can pay him a visit in his grotto before their festive skate. A visit to the grotto includes a meet with Santa, a ice skating pass, a Christmas gift for every child and a children’s hot chocolate. Go to the website to book a 20 minute visit with the Big Man!
What’s On at Nottingham Motorpoint Arena
England’s Netball Team, Vitality Roses: 9 & 10 December
England’s netball team will provide thrilling live action as they take on South Africa’s Proteas in this international test series. It’s the first chance to see the Vitality Roses play on home soil against one of the world’s top teams after the World Cup. After two sold out games in London and just under 7,000 seats sold in Manchester in January, this will be an epic clash.
High Rollers Tour: Ice Cube + Cypress Hill + The Game: 12 December
Rap icon Ice Cube makes his long-overdue return to British shores joined by hip-hop royalty Cypress Hill and The Game. The last time Ice Cube played in the UK was in 2011. The renowned West Coast rapper shot to fame in 1988 as a key member of NWA before taking Hollywood by storm in the nineties with films Boyz N The Hood and Friday. The show promises to be a celebratory journey through 30 years of hip hop.
Tom Jones: 14 December
The Ages & Stages tour from international superstar Tom Jones will see the living legend perform material from his colossal career including everything from soul-stirring ballads to exhilarating anthems, brought to life by his distinctive voice and magnetic charisma.
Killer Queen : 15 December
Bringing the classic songs of Queen alive, this world-class tribute act has won countless awards and brings the whole atmosphere of the band fronted by Freddie Mercury to their show through stage performance, costumes and more. The first tribute act to have a West End show, Killer Queen recreates the high energy, powerful phenomenon of Queen in a fantastic live show.
Coming up early next year is the Arena sized pantomime spectacular Peter Pan starring Boy George along with cirque performers, dazzling aerial stunts, a giant battle and a death-defying escape from a locked water tank by rising comedy star Jordan Conway playing Peter Pan (2 Jan).
Glitz and glamour arrive to Nottingham with Strictly Come Dancing Live in February featuring the BBC show’s favourite professionals partnered with celebrities from the current series and of course the all important judges (6-8 February).
Get ready for some rick-rolling as everyone’s favourite crooner Rick Astley is joined by special guest Belinda Carlisle on his UK tour to celebrate the release of his latest album from a career spanning 30 years (22 February).
With many of the UK shows for James Arthur already sold out, extra shows have been added for his ‘Bitter Sweet Love’ tour including 19 March in Nottingham. Fans are advised to act quickly to avoid missing out on what is sure to be another sell out (19 March).
The Harlem Globetrotters 2024 World Tour will see the stars bringing out their amazing basketball skill, outrageous athleticism and a non-stop good time. See the Globetrotters as they go head-to-head against the Washington Generals in this interactive game day experience. Upgrades include a Magic Pass for a pre-show event with the team where fans can take on the iconic players and shoot, pass and dribble on court, plus bag autographs and photos to capture the moment (23 February).
Premier League Darts
This will be Night Seven of the 2024 Premier League, which is set to feature reigning champion Michael van Gerwen. Van Gerwen will bid to defend his title next year, against rivals likely to include current World Champion Michael Smith and 2023 Premier League runner-up Gerwyn Price (14 March).
