The category winners in the 2016 Best Bar None Awards, which are designed to promote the responsible and effective management and operation of licensed premises, were recently announced at a special event organised by the Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) who have run the scheme in the city centre since 2010.
All 75 licensed premises in Nottingham city centre that have been successful in gaining Best Bar None accreditation this year, were invited to the event which took place at Alea Casino. This is up 47% from last year when 51 venues received accreditation, demonstrating that more venues than ever are committed to Best Bar None and dedicated to delivering safe and enjoyable nights out for their customers.
To arrive at the category winners, all of whom secured gold awards, an independent judging panel of industry experts carried out anonymous reviews of the top venues in each category according to their scores in the initial assessment and the applications they submitted.
The winner of the new Best Restaurant category is Bistro Live on Barker Gate. The judges were particularly impressed by their approach to preventing drink driving as well as their management procedures.
In the Best Club category the winner is Volt on Broadway. Their community involvement and support of the street pastors along with their security policies and use of drugs dogs were praised by the judges.
The winner of the Best Pub category is The Company Inn located on Castle Wharf. The judges especially liked their approach to security, the comprehensiveness of their policies and their conflict management training.
Cape at the junction of Victoria Street and Pelham Street was named as the winner of the Best Bar category. The judges highlighted the quality of their staff training and capacity management as well as their approach to security and underage drinking.
All the category winners are now invited to the Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards which take place on 22 June and at which the overall Best Bar None winner for 2016 will be crowned.
Andrew Crawford, a director of the Nottingham BID, said: “Congratulations to all of our winners as well as to all the accredited venues. It sends out a very strong message that Nottingham city centre is a safe and welcoming place.”
