Another? is one of Nottingham’s newest bars and offers a unique concept – serve your own wine!
Perfect for wine connoisseurs, You won’t find beer or cocktails at the new venture which is sited in Trinity Square.
Its unassuming entrance is at first hard to spot, surrounded by the likes of Curious Manor, Tamatanga and Turtle Bay, but find it and the staircase will lead you to a cosy wine bar which seats just 60 people and looks like it’s been there forever. Owner Sam Benjamin wanted to keep it removed from the stereotypical stuffy wine bar. Exposed brickwork and beams give it a rustic feel along with vintage wallpaper.
What gives it away as being new are the gleaming wine glasses and shiny dispensing cabinets, behind which are bottles of red, white, rose, Prosecco and Champagne, a mix of old world, new world and favourites.
There are 32 different wines to choose from I prefer a red, whereas my friend enjoys a white, so I went for the Shiraz and she enjoyed a Pinot Grigio. each bottle has full tasting notes and staff are on hand to offer expert advice.
The bar has been launched by Sam Benjamin, who has spent the last decade working on brand and product development in the food and drink industry. Having lived in Nottingham for six years, it was the perfect destination to launch his new venture. He says “A lot of people are scared of wine. We’re told how we should taste it, as well as the flavours and aromas we should be experiencing. You tend to find people find something they like and stick to it. However, our entire premise is about choice, exploration and trying something new.”
As it’s launch night we are greeted at the entrance, given our wine cards, shown around and seated. Water and nibbles are brought to our table. We are just two of the lucky 50 VIP’s who attended ahead of the launch night.
We’re not shown how to use the self-serve, but it’s pretty self-explanatory; Take the card you were issued with on arrival to the wines, choose which you want and the size and take a glass.
Insert your card into the machine, press the button to choose either a 25ml sample or a 125ml/175ml glass.
Before you leave, hand the card in at the desk and settle the bill. It’s a cashless environment, accepting only card payments. You can get your card swiped at any time if you are worried about running up a bill.
As well as wine by the glass, bottles are available and the venue is licensed for off-sales.
The bar will be open Wednesday – Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday being reserved for corporate events and private parties.
Sam has more plans for the future of the Another? Wine Bar brand. Wine Wednesdays will see customers able to combine the wine with a selection of locally sourced cheeses, breads and olives.
Plans also include a roof terrace and Sam already has his eye on a few more locations.
