Welcome food lovers to our February favourites.
On the box – The Beeb did it again last month, we loved the series ‘A Cook Abroad‘ which saw celebrity chefs explore their favourite cuisines in the travel, history and cookery show rolled into one. The fascinating show saw Dave Myers visit Egypt, Tony Singh in India, John Torode in Argentina and Monica Ghalati in France. There’s one more left so catch it next Monday at 9pm on BBC 2 as Rachel Khoo visits Malaysia.
Website – I’ve been a big fan of
www.notquitenigella.com for years now. Full time blogger, Australian Lorraine Elliott has one of the best food blogs going, with a massive following from around the world. A long time food enthusiast, she believes cakes belong in art galleries. Check it out yourself for original recipes and travel features. Which brings us nicely onto our next category.
Event – The Uncanny Canteen will take some beating as one of the most memorable food events we’ve been to. The Mysterious Gourmet Tour of the Primary Art Studio was an exclusive fund raising event to help maintain the Grade II listed building and develop the programme at Primary. Resident cook and artisan baker, Kimberley Bell designed a banquet of extraordinary dishes in collaboration with Primary artists. A sensory adventure which combined food, art, music and the unexpected. Look out for our review for NottinghamLive soon.
Restaurant – Singh’s. We reviewed the Indian Restaurant on Market Street for the site last month. The restaurant was launched in 2012 by owner and co- founder Mr Singh, who has over 15 years experience in the culinary industry. The distinctive menu he has produced offers fine Indian cuisine and classic curry dishes such as Tandoori Masala in a rich creamy sauce and a number of Shahi and Chef ‘treasures’, it embraces traditional Punjabi dishes and improves upon them with a contemporary twist using Mr Singh’s special spice mix, there is also a choice of vegetarian dishes, side dishes, appetisers, breads and rice.

Kitchen product – To go with the retro pie dishes we featured in last months round up, now you can have your own Blackbird baked in a pie with this little fella from Lakeland. He’ll stop the filling bubbling out, and lets steam escape to keep the pastry crisp.

Ingredient – This month I’m plumping for Liquid Glucose. I found this little pot on eBay for £4.99 for 325ml. Excellent for sugar craft, Liquid Glucose can be used as directed in chosen recipes to soften texture, add volume (thickener), prevent crystallization of sugar, enhance flavour, and retain moisture.
