A WELL known and popular landmark hotel in Nottingham has been sold on to new owners by the same property consultant who brokered the deal to its previous proprietor 15 years ago.

The 73 bedroom Westminster Hotel on Mansfield Road was sold to Anil Khanna in 2002 by Sam Spencer, now associate at leading property consultants Bruton Knowles.

Fifteen years down the line, Sam has now helped to ensure the security of the Best Western hotel’s future by facilitating its sale from Mr Khanna to Al Malik, proprietor of Remarkable Hotels who was advised by Philip Gibson, divisional director of hospitality and leisure at commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton.

Sam said: “The Westminster is a well-loved, historic hotel in Nottingham situated just over a mile from the city centre. It has served visitors to the city with affordable but high quality accommodation for many years and I am delighted that Bruton Knowles has helped to secure the hotel’s future with this sale to Mr Malik. It is also rewarding to be part of the continuation of the hotel’s story, as I sold the hotel to the previous owner in 2002.”

The Westminster is a Best Western branded three star hotel with a bar, restaurant, conference and function facilities and large car park. After the sale to Mr Malik it will retain its membership in the Best Western group, which offers global coverage, centralised booking systems and purchasing benefits.

Sam added: “The hotel was originally formed from the conversion of several town houses so it has some interesting and quirky features throughout its various rooms and suites. It has traded for 25 years and enjoys patronage from a mixture of corporate guests, tourists and groups who come to visit Nottingham.”

Al Malik, proprietor of Remarkable Hotels, said: “We are pleased to be taking the helm at the Westminster Hotel, our second property in Nottingham. It is already a popular place to stay and we have a long-term refurbishment plan to further improve the common areas and the bedrooms. I’m looking forward to joining a dedicated team of staff, many of whom have worked at the hotel for 15 years or so.”

The Westminster’s conference facilities include five rooms with capacity for up to 65 people in the largest room, while the Cromwell suite can host large weddings.

“I’m delighted the Westminster can continue to trade as a favoured, reliable and historic hotel in Nottingham, offering accommodation to conferences and banquets to weddings.” Sam added.
