The weekend of 4th & 5th July saw Green’s Mill, Sneinton celebrate 30 years since the restoration of the early 19th century windmill with their biggest summer event yet.
There were fun and games for the children, live music, a barbecue plus the chance to see work in progress at their new community garden.
Tonnes of rubbish have been cleared whilst paths, a greenhouse and summer-house have all been added.
The mill, run on behalf of the City by the Green’s Windmill Trust, a registered charity, was originally owned and operated by the mathematical physicist George Green and built by George’s father, a baker from sneinton, for most of his life George worked there.
The mill is still in operation today and you can take a trip to the top to take in fabulous views over Nottingham. You can also buy award-winning organic flour; Wholemeal , white, spelt, rye and oatmeal, ground using wind-power and the new sails at the mill, from the shop at the front of the science centre, where you can also discover the remarkable story of George Green, his achievements and things that fascinated him such as light, electricity and magnetism.
There is no admission charge to visit the mill and science centre, although donations to the charity are welcome. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10.00 – 4.00.
