Food: Hat trick for Junkbars Ltd thanks to First Enterprise loan

Entrepreneurial duo Nigel Garlick and Sam Dean’s latest venture – a third Nottingham bar – the Herbert Kilpin Public House, is set to become a Nottingham landmark thanks to funding from First Enterprise.

The Herbert Kilpin opened its doors in June, in an historic building formally home to the Rhinehold restaurant, in Bridlesmith Walk next to another of their venues, Junkyard, a specialist craft beer bar.

On the back of the success of the two other iconic Nottingham bars that they own – Boilermaker and Junkyard – Nigel and Sam were able to focus their efforts on a new project.

Nigel said: “Between Sam and I, we have over forty years of experience in hospitality in Nottingham and it was really important for us to create something that would become a key Nottingham landmark. That is why this iconic building and its location are so perfect for the Herbert Kilpin.”

The Herbert Kilpin was named after the founder of Italian football club, A.C. Milan, who hails from Nottingham and grew up on Mansfield Road.

Nigel added: “We’re absolutely delighted with how well the Herbert Kilpin has been doing so far. We now employ 12 wonderful members of staff. We’ve had lots of positive feedback from customers and we hope they’ll just keep coming back. It’s important to us that we value both our first-time customers and our regulars.

“The success of our other bars has been the driving force behind the Herbert Kilpin but we wouldn’t have been able to make our dream a reality if it wasn’t for a loan from First Enterprise.

“We’ve work with First Enterprise a few times now and they’ve always been really great and supportive and helped us to get going.”

First Enterprise has supported the entrepreneurial duo with £50,000 worth of loans between their two sites.

Victoria Copestake, business development manager at First Enterprise, said: “We’re really proud to support Nigel and Sam with getting the funds they need to kick start the Herbert Kilpin.

“First Enterprise is here to help other businesses across Nottinghamshire whether they need funding and advice to help them get started or to invest in new premises or equipment.”
