Thursday 13th July was a weird day in Nottingham, because not only did a beach arrive in the city, but so did Christmas!
It was a weird feeling, on a sunny day, walking through the man made seaside to the Bierkeller, where the launch of their Christmas party packages was in full swing.
I was greeted at the door with a glass of Prosecco and strawberry, something I love, so they get a big tick right there. I was then directed downstairs to where the big day had arrived.
For those not familiar with the Bierkeller, it is situated on Friar Lane in the building which used to house the Walkabout Bar. The Bierkeller is on three levels. You enter in the Around the World Bar, which has been designed to give a dynamic and quirky atmosphere. Upstairs is Shooters Bar, a sporting venue designed to maximise the opportunity to play games as well as watching on the big screen. Downstairs is the actual Bierkeller, an authentic Bavarian Bierkeller. German beers are served in two pint steins, by waitresses in classic Bavarian dress. Long bench seating great decor and, at the weekend, live entertainment from our Oompah bands make it a great social venue. So where better to celebrate Christmas!
As I entered the bar my ears were filled with the sounds of Christmas classics, White Christmas, Let it Snow, Mary’s Boy Child, Blue Christmas, along with the others that resurface every year. Tables were laid out with glittering presents, miniature twinkling Christmas trees and sample party menu dishes from all three bars.
Guests were treated to one free drink from the bar. Ok, here’s one complaint. They had no red wine when I ordered, and also, shouldn’t there be mulled wine? It is Christmas after all.
Waitresses bought round a selection of canapes for guests, these included Blue Cheese on Crostini, which were delicious, mini Pizzas, proper sausages on sticks, pate on french bread, feta and tomato on sticks, olives and tomato on sticks.
We were then treated to slow cooked Porchetta Hog Roast on a cob (it says bread roll on the menu, but we’re in Nottingham, lets get it right, it’s a cob) Unfortunately I’d eaten mine before I realised they were coming round with apple sauce (damn me for being so greedy).
The Christmas Cracker Hog Roast is just one of the options available for Christmas parties. They are also offering a Help Yourself Hotdog Cart – this will be available in the Shooters bar too, where they will be also offering Silver, Gold and Platinum Packages for parties.
The Around The World Bar will be offering food from across the globe which a canape menu, Buon Natale Menu and Feliz Navidad menu, as well as a traditional Christmas Cracker Lunch Menu with Roast Turkey and all the trimmings and Christmas Pudding. Vegetarian options are available and drinks packages are also available in all three bars.
Merry Christmas everyone!
