Television: On the box last month we loved the new BBC series of Food & Drink.  With Tom Kerridge heading up the new series, the show also welcomed guests Angela Hartnet, The Hairy Bikers and explored food trends in the uk today, had food challenges and wine pairing. What’s not to love.

Website – yumbles.com had our tummys rumbling this month. The website is a marketplace connecting food lovers with the UK’s best independent food and drink producers. Their mission is to enable everyone to discover and enjoy the abundance of innovative and delicious foods produced by passionate, talented people, supporting and selling food from independent producers across the UK along with novelty items such as the fabulous chocolate shoes pictured.

Food Event. Burns Night gave us the chance to try the Scottish Cuisine. We sampled the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties at The Falcon:http://www.nottinghamlive.co.uk/live/toasting-burns-night-at-the-falcon-inn-canning-circus-nottingham

and also the delights of the future stars of the kitchen at the Adams Restaurant:

Grilled Mackerel with tasty savoury Mackerel Tartare with Shallot rings, Croutons and Coriander Cress

Recipe – We’re always trying different recipes. Last months favourite is courtesy of the domestic goddess herself Nigella Lawson. Tagliata sounds like it should be an Italian pasta dish but is actually a great recipe for steak marinaded over night from her ‘Feast’ cookery book.

Restaurant – As a birthday treat we headed of to the two Michelin starred Sat Bains. A gastronomic 20150117_231304heaven, where do we even begin. Yes it’s pricey but if you love food it’s absolutely worth every penny. You only need to look at the recipes in Sat Bains book ‘Too Man Chiefs’ to appreciate how much effort and planning,  (not to mention the ingredients) has gone into each dish. We had the ten course taster menu, which was absolutely amazing, followed by coffee and thin slabs of flavoured chocolate to die for, an indulgent treat in themselves (I’d call in for those any day). If you get the chance it’s definitely worth a visit.

Ingredient. Chef White Poultry stock was the latest edition to our store cupboard. Bought via Amazon, it may seem pricey for £13.09 for 800g but this versatile flavoursome powder with a rounded chicken flavour can be added to soups, stocks, pie fillings etc and reduced down without becoming salty.
