Nottingham’s newest bar, The Hockley Arts Club, has now opened it’s doors after the transformation and restoration of the Victorian Grade-II listed it is housed in. NottinghamLIVE were lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening.
The creative team behind popular cult venue Das Kino have transformed the former offices of George Wigley & Son’s silk merchants & importers, into a timeless new venue.
The ground floor houses Mid-Century furniture, Scandinavian wood panelling. As part of opening night deal we are given vouchers for free cocktails which we can order from the back bar which is stocked with glass vitrines of unusual aged liquors or staff are on hand to take orders from the comfort of your table.
The first floor has the intimate feel of a gentleman’s club surrounded by original fittings, an impressive bar, and a series of rooms lit by moody lamps and striking neon lights
.The story of the building unfolds as you head upstairs to the first floor, which has the intimate feel of an exclusive members club. The bar dominates a stunning main room full of original features, which leads into a series of grade II listed spaces where the historic nature of this building has been preserved. Finally, the kitsch Electric Garden lies waiting in the loft space enticing guests with its vibrant lighting, a fabulous outdoor meets indoor space.
Guests can experience casual dining, an extensive wine list and of course cocktails. Mixed with alchemic precision, the carefully crafted list will boast bold flavour combinations throughout. We take a hit of nostalgia as we try the bubblegum and sherbert flavour cocktails.
General manager Adam Sumner is really excited about the venue and it’s offering:“It’s been a fantastic opening! People really seemed to love the unique décor and what’s on offer.
