Twice Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar recently visited Nottingham for a charity dinner at award winning Indian restaurant MemSaab.  Atul brought along his team of chefs from his London restaurant, Benares to cook at the dinner.

At the event guests were treated to a four course dinner with paired wines along with live music from Nottingham singer Campbell Bass, traditional Indian musicians and a band. Atul also did a book signing and there was a charity auction and raffle.

The event raised over £27,000 for four charities:

  • The Maggie’s Centre at Nottingham City Hospital which provides support to people with cancer and their families and friends.
  • Help a Nottinghamshire Child (HNC) – The Galleries of Justice Museum’s fundraising campaign which aims to keep local young people away from crime and out of prison.
  • The Ngoingwa Children’s Centre in Kenya which provides a home for 80 orphan girls as well as outreach projects for children in slum villages in Kenya.
  • The Heart of Experian Local Charity and Community Fund, a fund set up by Experian to help small groups and organisations who need support in tough financial times.

This brings the total that MemSaab has helped to raise for various charities over the last few years to in excess of £170,000.

“We are delighted that Atul came to Nottingham to support this charity dinner,” said Amita Sawney, owner of MemSaab.  “Guests were treated to some great food and wines specially chosen to complement the dishes.  We are thrilled with the amount that we raised and would like to thank Atul as well as all those who kindly donated items for the raffle and auction and everyone who attended the dinner for their generosity.”
