Food: Volt named overall winner of Nottingham’s Best Bar None

Winners of Best Club category - Volt

Volt Club has been named as the overall winner of Best Bar None, a category sponsored by the Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) in the recent Nottinghamshire Food and Drink Awards, hosted by celebrity chef Aldo Zilli.

The club, which is located on Broadway in Nottingham city centre, was particularly praised for their community involvement and support of the city’s street pastors along with the quality of their security policies and use of drugs dogs.

Volt had already been chosen as the best club in an earlier round of the Best Bar None Awards but then went on to be named as the overall Nottingham Best Bar None winner.  They beat restaurant category winner Bistro Live; the winner of the pub category, the Company Inn and Cape in the bar category.  Volt were presented with their award by Andy Crawford, a director of the Nottingham BID and Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping.

The Best Bar None Awards are designed to promote the responsible and effective management and operation of licensed premises, with the scheme being run in Nottingham city centre by the Nottingham BID since 2010.  This year 75 licensed premises in the city centre secured Best Bar None accreditation, up 47% on last year when 51 venues received accreditation, demonstrating that more venues than ever are committed to Best Bar None and dedicated to delivering safe and enjoyable nights out for their customers.

“Winning this award means so much to me and the rest of the team,” said Dan Heffernan, partner at Volt. “We are privileged and honoured to be amongst the best licensed businesses in the city.”

At the same awards ceremony George’s Great British Kitchen was named as the winner in the Best City Centre Experience category sponsored by the Nottingham BID’s consumer facing brand, It’s in Nottingham. Located on Queen Street in the city centre, George’s is an airy, upscale fish and chip restaurant with a traditional menu, sharing boards and British gins. Diners can sit in striped beach huts on the first floor or admire the stunningly high ceilings and elegant décor downstairs.

Andrew Crawford, a director of the Nottingham BID, said: “Congratulations to Volt as well as to those that were shortlisted and all the accredited venues.  It sends out a very strong message that Nottingham city centre is a safe and welcoming place.

“Congratulations also to George’s on winning their category,” added Andrew. “Nottingham has a great range of food and drink businesses with more and more opening up all the time, all contributing to the vibrancy of the city.”
