Georgie Rose is a huge favourite of us here at NottinhamLIVE and, like the rest of you, we can’t wait for her return to the stage when she headlines at The Glee Club this Tuesday. We decided to put a few questions to Georgie ahead of the gig.
You have a big show coming up at Glee Club this week, how is preparation going and how are you feeling?
The preparations been going great and we’ve worked really hard but really enjoyed it so much!
Lots of new songs too and a different twist on a few older ones. We are all super excited. I don’t allow the word nervous
Your playing with a full band at this show, what made you want to develop to a full band?
Yeah I felt like it was the right direction and when we first rehearsed together it all fell together naturally I suppose. I love playing full band and the music we are playing now is what I want to be playing at every gig I’ve really understood what direction I want to go and more importantly what music I want to be making.
We saw you playing YNot on the BBC Introducing stage last year with a band – which incidentally was our set of the weekend – did that performance have any bearing on the decision to make the band a more permanent fixture?
Yeah YNot was great along with splendour but I wasn’t sure if that was the sound I wanted to be making personally (even the way I wrote) I was very much finding myself as a musician at that point in time and I guess I was 17 so it’s about an experimental process when it comes to music. The guys I used to play with were very very talented but for me to take the music in a different direction we were all agreed on the outcome that we would all move on individually.
How does it compare performing with a band to the solo stuff, do you think it pushes you further in your performances?
Well I suppose its different i prefer playing as a band and I think with the new guys it really does feel more like a band you know like that Fleetwood Mac , Doobie Brother’s, 70s west coast vibe and I love it I love sharing the same stage as them. Its helped me develop my performance and it’s definitely added to the sound. They are brilliant!
It must be a lot more difficult organising rehearsals and practice now though?
When you’re the only female organising is never a problem haha. They are all cool so it’s not too bad
What can people expect from the gig then? Will you be treating us to some new tracks?
Lots of new tracks i think 80% of the set is new. And you know it’s a different sound altogether. There are electric keys, lead guitar, bass, drums and 3 piece harmonies so Can’t wait to see how it goes down.
Are you going to be concentrating on performing with the band for now or do you have any plans to do some solo shows as well?
Well I want it to be more of a band thing like I say I love playing with them they are great and we all seem to gel nicely. So honestly I’d like to play every show as a band.
Festival season is nearly upon us, you played a few last year, are you looking at playing a few more of those with the band this summer?
Hopefully we shall see on that one…
Is there a dream festival you’d like to play?
Its got to be Glastonbury I’ve never missed one on the TV since being a kid so I would love to play that. I think Cochella could be cool too and warm!
You are well-known on the Nottingham scene, and rightly so, which other Nottingham acts are catching your attention at the moment?
Nottingham is great and so diverse you have Saint Raymond, Amber run, Indiana all making huge waves and rightly so. Then Ryan Thomas is brilliant, Bitter Strings, Band of Jackals, One Bomb, The Afterdark Movement, Beth Frisby! List goes on…
Can we expect an EP or album release during 2014?
Hopefully! Now I’ve shaped the music and feel 100% happy I think a single is certain.
Finally anything else you’d like to say to the readers?
Glee Club!!
