Laughing Ahead: Comedy Guide – October 2014

Welcome to the first of NottinghamLive’s new monthly Preview of all that’s happening Comedy-wise in Nottingham this month. And what a bumper month to begin with.

vegas460There’s only one place to start this month. Just the Tonic celebrate their 20th Birthday with a bash at the Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 4th October. It all kicks off at 8pm and features The Fast Show’s John Thompson (niiiiiiice)’ Phoenix Nights’ Daniel Kitson, the eccentric Paul Foot (also appearing at The Forum for Just the Tonic on Friday 31st) and Johnny Vegas, the man who sold his wedding pictures to Viz for £1. Tickets are £17 (£15 NUS).
Each Saturday during the month, Just the Tonic host their regular nights at The Forum in The Cornerhouse. The likes of Matt Richardson, Patrick Monahan and Ray Peacock are amongst those appearing.

dave-gorman-498557564Dave Gorman, star of Modern Life is Goodish on Dave TV, brings his “Gets straight to the point (*The PowerPoint)” show  to Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday 19th. The show is a sell-out but those who are lucky enough to have a ticket will be treated to Mr Gorman’s enlightening brand of comedy.

The Playhouse also plays host to Paul Merton on Wednesday 22nd. Principally known for “Have I Got News For You”, Mr Merton will be telling stories from his life and career, including excerpts from his upcoming autobiography, “Only when I Laugh “. Tickets are £17 or £28 together with a copy of the book, which will retail at £20.

Miranda Hart returns to Nottingham Arena on Thursday 16th, following her successful stint at the same venue earlier in the year. The Arena hosts another comedy show when Ed Sheeran appears on the 22nd and 23rd. There’s music too, in the form of Nottingham’s excellent rising star, Saint Raymond.

The likes of Tom Stade (Thurs 9th), David O’Doherty (Wednesday 15th) and Tony Law (Thurs 23rd) grace the stage at Glee Club this month. Comedians appearing on their regular “Best in live stand up comedy” nights include Rob Deering, Tiffany Stevenson and John Moloney.

On Sunday 12th, All Stars of comedy bring their hugely successful comedy clash back to The Glee, featuring Richard Blackwood, Slim, Rudi Lickwood and John Simmit, fresh from their sellout The Real MCoy Part 2 tour.

Fri 31st – 8 out of 10 Cats’ Jon Richardson at The Royal Concert Hall
