It was a case of ‘Order in the Court Room’ on Saturday 20th September as the exclusive Law and Order more beer festival took place at Nottingham’s Award winning Galleries of Justice.

Fresh from an appearance on ‘Most Haunted’, this time it wasn’t spirits in the house but a whole range of beers and Ciders. The event was organised in partnership with CAMRA who bought their expertise to the selection, serving over 20 of the finest local and national brewed beers and ciders in one of Nottingham’s most iconic and historical venues.

Following last years success, this year, with the support of Alea Casino and insurance broking and risk managing firm Russell Scanlon, the festival delighted visitors yet again. Entry to the event which ran from 12 noon right through until 11pm was free.

Also known as the Shire Hall, housed in what was once a Victorian courtroom, Gaol, Police Station and base for the Sheriff of Nottingham, the Galleries of Justice on High Pavement in the Lace Market is an independent museum and a registered charity. Nicola Burley, Executive Director at the Galleries of Justice Museum said: ‘We rely on sponsorship to reduce the commercial risk to the charity. Without the support of the business community, these events could not take place. Our educational programmes are delivered by the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (NCCL) which involves more than 12,000 children a year in the Courts of Justice Programme at The Galleries of Justice Museum. We value the contribution that any business makes…and we are especially grateful to Russell Scanlan and Alea as our headline sponsors; and to the Shipstones Beer Company and the Nottinghamshire Law Society for their support too!’

Historically wrong doers could be arrested, sentenced and executed on the site, the iron palisades to the front were in fact placed to help control unruly crowds on the occasion of a public hanging,  fortunately there was plenty of ale to go round and it was a fabulous friendly atmosphere at the impressive Galleries of Justice which also allowed access to some of the museums fascinating exhibitions.

For those looking for something a little different, the venue also offers Villainous Sheriffs children’s parties and Christmas parties as well as something else we at NottinghamLIVE fancy – the Sheriff’s Medieval Banquets. The Medieval Banquets include a four course dinner, served by wenches whilst medieval minstrels provide entertainment.
