So here we are with our first proper Looking Ahead of the year, apologies for missing last week but we we’re still trying to get into the swing of the New Year, and being back at work full time. Still we’re back up and running now so let’s take a look at the best gigs to catch across Nottingham over the next week.
Chaos Wars 2015: The Heats – The Maze – Monday 12 – Thursday 15 January
The Chaos Wars competition returns to kick start the year. Run by the excellent Chaos Promotions this competition pits a host of great rock and metal bands against each other for the chance to become Chaos Wars champion. 16 band have entered this year, but only one can win, and as the road to the final gets underway there will be a series of heats over the next four days with bands looking to earn a spot in February’s semi-finals.
The line up for the Heats is as follows:
Heat One: LUCKY FATE, THE SPANGLE CORPS, SOCIAL GENOCIDE, THE PURGE
Heat Two: KYAZRAEL, BURIED BY ATLANTIS, STICK TO PLAN B, THESE SKIES.
Heat Three: ENGRAVED IN BLOOD, INTERVENTION, AN EMPIRE WILL FALL, TEMPLES FALL
Heat Four: PREQUEL, HVMAN TEETH, LONEWOLVES, FAMOUS FOR NOTHING.
All heats are just £4 entry and doors are 7pm each night so why not get down and give your favourites some support and maybe even find some new bands you enjoy.

Cadets, No Good Honey, Myles Knight – The Golden Fleece – Thursday 15 January
As is now becoming the norm, the place to be on Thursday night is The Golden Fleece where you can relax and enjoy some wonderful music as something of a pre-weekend kick start.
CADETS are a top local indie band with a great sound and some fantastically catchy tracks, these guys look set for a pretty great 2015 and are sure to be ready to kick their year off on Thursday.
Back on the very first episode on the NottinghamLIVE Radio Show in February 2013 we had on a then little known band by the name of Union, the band then went on to become ALBION, and appeared on our first birthday special. Sadly that band are no longer around having gone their separate ways however the bands hugely talented front man MYLES KNIGHT is still doing his stuff and will be opening the night on Thursday.
Also performing will be Lincolnshire band NOT GOOD HONEY.
This is a free entry gig and kicks off at 9.

Royston Duxford, Stavros, Breakfast Club, Same Streets – The Jamcafe – Friday 16 January
Jamcafe and I’m Not From London go together like, well bread and jam I guess, and so this Friday you can expect this to be the gig to go to for your Nottingham music fix.
ROYSTON DUXFORD will be rounding up the night with their foot stomping mix of low down, low fi, foot stompin’, bone breakin’, finger lickin’, country blues & rock’n’roll. Expect the dance floor to be rammed (then again when isn’t it at Jam) for these guys who are always stellar live.
STAVROS might sound like a character from Harry Enfield but they are in fact the new trio fronted by The Money singer Paul Stav Mylonas. This new trio sees all new material including tracks about killer felines and evil golddiggers. Expect great things of these guys of which the INFL team said “Stavros sound like accomplished contemplative musicians reminiscing on testing times of love and life whilst looking forward to a bolder, exciting more dynamic future, they clearly enjoy this and fans will too.”
THE BREAKFAST CLUB were. arguably, one the breakout Nottingham acts of last year. This trio made a huge impression with the release of the debut album early in the year and went from strength to strength as they continued to pick up fans and perform across the city. We predict an even better 2015 for these guys so make sure you’re at Jamcafe on Friday to find out why.
SAME STREETS may seem like a fairly new name on the scene but they already have performances at Macmillan Fest and the Riverside Festival behind them. This trio, fronted by James Gooch, produce hugely enjoyable rock sounds and are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
Expect the Jamcafe to be rocking this Friday and what is more it’s free entry so get down early as it will be jammed – no pun intended.

Load of Meat Fest 4 – The Maze – Sunday 18 January
Load of Meat Fest is a regular all-dayer that you’ll probably notice always features in Looking Ahead when it takes place. If you’re wondering why there are three reasons for this:
1) It ALWAYS has a fantastic line up 2) It comes from the great folks over at IKE Productions, the folks behind Macmillan Fest 3) There is always a FREE BBQ.
Yes you read that right, there will be a FREE BBQ – hence the name of the event – add that to points 1) and 2) and you can see why we know this will always be a winner.
Once again there will be three stages of live music for you to enjoy as you tuck into a burger, hot dog or whatever else is on offer (diets on hold for today folks) as well as one of the many great drinks available from behind the bar.
The main bar will feature sets from CUT THE HEROICS, a second chance to catch THE SPANGLE CORPS, REQUIN BLANC, BADELF, CASTAWAY and THE CHASE.
Meanwhile the acoustic stage will feature the sounds of ADAM ZAREBA, MATTSNOTYOURS, NATHANEAL WHEATLEY, HOLLY TAYLOR-GAMBLE and KARLIEE MASON.
Finally the second stage, which is also acoustic, will see sets from LIBBY MCELROY, IZZY RANDALL, THE CORRIDORS, SCRIBBLE VICTORY and LAURA ALLISON.
Doors are at 4.30pm and all this – including aforementioned FREE BBQ – can be enjoyed for the bargain price of just £6.
