Friday 2 May

DEAF BRIDGES and HAGGARD CAT BOTHDAY PRESENT – Jamcafe – 9:30pm – free

“DEAF BRIDGES are an unconventional three-piece of two basses and drums. Featuring members of Practical Lovers and the now retired Hot Japanese Girl, this was their debut gig. Sounding a bit like Death from Above but with more noise, these guys treated a rammed Jam Café to a set of post-apolcalyptic, sci-fi party rock featuring hand claps and songs about Arnold Schwarzenegger. Their set finished with two anthemic songs. Fight the Tiger was played with a driving pulse, a cheeky 80’s riff and a rousing chorus of “you gotta punch the air, you gotta punch it good.” Say Yes to Adventure was an instrumental odessey finishing with the rousing invitation to “say yes to more adventure.” If these guys pen a few more tracks like these, then Notts is in for a treat.” – Graeme Smith LeftLion

“I work just as hard or harder than anybody on that stage. You know what I do? I connect. I get people off. I look for the one guy who isn’t getting off, and I make him get off.” David Louis Lankester – Deaf Bridges

HAGGARD CAT BOTHDAY PRESENT “is the side project of Baby Godzilla’s Matt Reynolds and Tom Marsh, playing whisky-fuelled blues rock. This was a live performance of their recently recorded debut album Charger, including ten tracks of shouts, riffs and drums. Two men and two instruments making enough noise for a six-piece. Highlights of the set included Alligator Tightrope an ode to roaming with a relentless riff, and Gumblood Shuffle, performed with blood-curling screams and a marching drum beat. Their set included no short amount of instrument swapping, chaos, and crowd-surfing that threatened to almost tear the intimate venue apart. Haggard Cat’s album is currently available online for absolutely nothing, but it’s worth so much more.” – Graeme Smith Leftlion

They are also joined by Manchester band The Hyena Kill.

NLC/RACPA Festival 2014 – The Maze – 1pm – £15 weekend (£8 per day)

This weekend sees the return of the NLC/RACPA Festival to The Maze, sadly, it seems, this will be the last year of the event which has done wonders in raising both funds for and awareness of RACPA UK – Rock Against Childhood Pornography and Abuse – a charity that aims to both raise awareness of and support victims of online child abuse.

We’re proud to be sponsoring the stage on the Saturday and we hope to see plenty of you down there, check back for a fuller preview in the next couple of days.
