The nights might well be drawing in and, for some, thought is already turning towards certain end of the year festivities (not that we’re going to mention them here), however for the music lovers among us there are plenty of gigs taking place over the next seven days to ensure you can refrain from thinking that far ahead for a bit longer at least.
Here’s a pic of just a few of them……

Hush #6 – The Maze – Wednesday 8 October
It’s the return of The Maze’s night celebrating the best in Nottingham acoustic music – HUSH. Firmly established as a place to catch some of the best the city has to offer the good folk at The Maze have once again put together a cracking line up for you to enjoy this week.
ALEXANDER CHRISTOPHER HALE is the front man, and indeed only member, of band Alex and the Christopher Hale Band and writes songs about American history, unusual dreams and intense loneliness. You can expect folk-punk hip hop, tediously drawn out sing-a-longs and, oh, the odd Shakira cover.
Reasonably new on the scene but already getting people talking is ELLIE KEEGAN, blending eclectic and soulful indie sounds with raw lyrics and captivating melodies this Mansfield singer has been described as having a “one man band” type of sound.
Anyone familiar with former Nottingham fun party band Arse Full of Chips will be familiar with the name (and probably naked dancing) of STANLEY MACKEREL, now performing solo but still with as much fun and entertainment as ever. Expect to laugh, cry and possibly leave with images you can never scrub from your mind.
DAN MASON is another reasonably new addition on the Nottingham music scene but with his use of both acoustic guitar and banjo to add a different vibe to his sound he is well worth checking out.
Also performing will be Nottingham singer-songwriter JAKE BURNS and Derby four piece folk-punk band THE HIVEMIND.
The show starts at 7.30pm and it’s just £3 entry.

Kagoule + God Damn – The Bodega – Wednesday 8 October
Nottingham’s KAGOULE are one of the best loved bands in the city and it’s hardly a surprise to see them sign up with Nottingham’s very own Earhace Records recently, now, after a cracking summer which included a performance at Glastonbury, the Kagoule gang are back to rock their hometown in a double headliner show with their friends and fellow noise makers God Damn.
As if the chance to see the two headline acts wasn’t enough it gets even better because one of our Nottingham favourites will be kicking the show off. BAND OF JACKALS will be bringing the noise at the beginning of the night and will no doubt set the bar high for what follows.
It’s doors at 7pm and tickets are £7 – though we believe there is a £4 cheaplist if you get on it fast enough.

Nottsjam 2014 – The Chameleon – Friday 10 October
This Friday a selection of top Nottingham acts will be heading to The Chameleon for Nottsjam 2014, and it’s all to raise money for Oxjam.
JOSH WHEATLEY is one of our favourite Nottingham solo performers, his heartfelt lyrics and charming personality make for a winning combination that have earned him much love in the city. His debut EP ‘Follow the Smoke’ proved a huge hit and Josh is the ideal person to kick things off this Friday.
Following Josh will be THE RASCELS, runners up in the Future Sound of Nottingham competition this year, The Rascels are considered one of the most exciting groups in the city with an energetic blend of rock n roll and indie pop proving for a fun, enjoyable live performance.
Rounding off the night will be the excellent FIELD STUDIES, these guys have wasted no time becoming one of the most enjoyable bands on the Nottingham scene always performing a brilliant live show. Catch them here just days before they perform on the NottinghamLIVE stage at the Hockley Hustle (more on that to come).
It’s £4 for this gig but remember it’s for a fantastic cause so get along to The Chameleon this Friday night.

Def Goldblum, Asbo Peepshow, The Rutherfords, The Chokeholds & Cut the Heroics – The Old Angel – Friday 10 October
If you like your music loud and messy then the place to be this Friday might just be The Old Angel with five great Nottingham acts ready to kick start your weekend.
As well as having one of our favourite band names, Def Goldbum…. you see what they did there? these guys are also pretty damn special. Fronted by the excellent Duke01 these guys may have started as just a fun covers jam but they’ve come some way since then. Fusing hip-hop, rock, metal, funk and jazz into something completely new you can be sure that these guys will have the dancefloor full and bouncing.
ASBO PUNKSHOW have been doing their thing since back in 08 and their thing is power-driven punk rock of the kind that will have the Old Angel shaking to the core.
Also on the line up will be long time Nottingham favourites and sometimes Stanley Mackerel featuring (yes the naked dude mentioned in the earlier gig) powerpop trio THE RUTHERFORDS, hardcore punk act THE CHOKEHOLDS and, possibly the youngest of the lot, pop-punk act CUT THE HEROICS.
This gig is going to be loud, sweaty and chaotic – what more could you want and it’s only £3

Bartons Unplugged – Bartons plc – Saturday 11 October
INFL are taking over the grand old Bartons building in Chilwell once more this Saturday for another night of great unplugged music – which also acts as a kick off to this years Carnival of Monsters art festival.
Topping the bill this month will be one of Nottinghams most established performers, the hugely talented CHRIS MCDONALD, sometimes frontman of Leo & The Seraphim, his solo work blends folk and soul for a wonderful sound. Now living in London this gig offers a rare chance to catch Chris performing solo in Nottingham.
Joining Chris will be the excellent ROBYN HUGHES-JONES, a local acoustic performer known for her stunning vocals, plus the heartfelt and touching sounds of DAUDI MATSIKO.
Tickets are £10 on the door or £8 in advance.
