Dumb Angel are coming to Chameleon Arts Café, Nottingham on November 20th
The Canadian band have just shared a new video for ‘Like A Wave, Like The Tide’, taken from their new vinyl release Broken Glass (out Nov 2nd). This will be their first UK tour. Led by songwriter Shaun Mason, they take as much influence from Nick Drake and Bert Jansch as Spiritualized and Slowdive.
The melancholic, expressive video depicts images from Saskatoon, delicately transposed over shots of Shaun walking his home turf. Shaun tells us “the video captures in an eerie way how I see Saskatoon in my dreams, or how I remember it when I’m far away from home. It is almost like I’m continually walking in and out of a dream or memory. Always coming and going, never able to stay in one place for long”

Saskatoon shoegazers draw you into their world on new record
Dumb Angel releasing new vinyl album Broken Glass on November 2nd 2018

“Fans of Mojave 3 and Spiritualized at their most joyous may want to take note.” – The Line of Best Fit
“The soundscape features harmonies, pedal steel, keys, percussion and layered guitars (and) resembles what it would sound like if Dennis Wilson jammed with Wish You Were Here-era Pink Floyd.” Exclaim

Dumb Angel are a collection of like-minded artists from Saskatoon, Canada, fronted by singer-songwriter Shaun Mason. Mason’s luminous, meditative songs are elevated to kaleidoscopic heights by widescreen production, taking as much influence from Nick Drake and Bert Jansch as Spiritualized and Slowdive.
These shoegaze elements are juxtaposed with quicksilver pedal steel guitar, lush vocal harmonies, and hypnotically layered acoustic and electric guitars to draw you into Dumb Angel’s singular, sprawling world. This world will now be brought to life on a limited edition 45rpm double vinyl pressing of their album Broken Glass, recorded and produced by S.J. Kardash (Shooting Guns, Sheepdogs, The Deep Dark Woods).
Dark, emotionally honest lyrical subjects are combined with delicate melodies to invoke feelings of melancholy but overall, hope. For example, the title track is “about an pretty serious accident I (Shaun) had as a kid, the symbolism of the event, and me being me, seeing it as a metaphor for patterns and behaviour in my life since.” Whereas elsewhere on the record, ‘Wanted, Needed, Loved’ provides some respite – “it’s a straightforward love song. I was trying to express the simple joy of feeling valued by someone you care about. Maybe after a bit of a dry spell.”
The band will be touring UK for the first time in Autumn 2018, along with dates in Europe and Canada.
