Drummer Jon Curtis’ Trio features Matt Ratcliffe on piano and Marcus Cain on bass who play bop and post-bop jazz at the Pelican Club in the Lace Market from 10pm.
The Groove Merchants AKA Chris Green on electric guitar, Mat Short on bass and Si Potts on drums perform at Stray’s in Newark from 3-5pm on Saturday November 10. Peggy’s Skylight welcomes BEJE who are the Bristol European Jazz Ensemble; a collection of jazz musicians from the European mainland who make Bristol their home. This Sunday November 11, saxophonist Ben Martin leads his band featuring Matt Ratcliffe on keys and Andrew ‘Woody’ Wood on drums as well as special guest Courtney Thomas on double bass at The Lion in Basford from 1.30-3.30pm. The Swing Zippers (Elliott Lewis and Viaceslav Klimasevskij on guitars) will be picking and strumming at the Brewhouse and Kitchen on Trent Bridge from 2pm-4pm. Beeston Jazz Club reforms (nice) to present visiting US Prince of Bebop Greg Abate on alto sax alongside BoHoP (Ian Beestin on drums, Neil Hunter on keys and Geoff Pearson on double bass) at the Star Inn in Beeston from 8.15pm, entry is £7 on the door.
The newly refurbished Bell Inn on Angel Row has the timely Omega band performing on Monday November 12 from 8.30-10.30pm.
I’m singing with Shell’s Belles big band at Dexter’s Jazz Club at the Headstocks in Cinderhill this Tuesday November 13 from 8.30-10.30pm, admission is £6.
It’s the fortnightly Risley Park Jazz Club on Wednesday November 14 with trombonist Richard Leach’s all-star Club House Six who play traditional jazz featuring George Huxley
on reeds and Nick Ward at the drums from 8.30-11pm. Admission is £9.
Back at Peggy’s on Thursday November 15 award-winning trumpet player and composer Hugh Pascall leads his quartet from 8pm, doors open at 7pm, entry is £5 in advance or on the door. Stephen Sherriff plays keys around the corner at the Pelican Club with singer Rachael Pennell from 9pm.
