It’s Wendy Smith again this week, from The Shipstone St Jazz Orchestra and Cool Jazz.
Peggy’s Skylight starts the jazz week on Friday 9th August with Deli at 7pm – Deb Mawby (saxes/percussion) Paul Deats (keys) Steve Truman on bass and Sophie Fishwick on drums, a snip at £8. Saturday afternoon tea is from 12pm with Paul Deats on piano. At 7pm on Saturday the Brad Shepik Trio gives you Classic Jazz (£12/£10).
Dovecote Recreation Ground, Beeston hosts Time Warp 1940s on Saturday 10th August where Jeanie Barton performs at 2pm with Stephen Sherriff, Simon Paterson and Andrew Wood. Admission is £5 unless you arrive in 1940s attire!
A feast for jazz lovers on Sunday 11th August! Starting at Peggy’s, Me & Mr Jones entertain from 12pm, and 6pm the same day sees a Sketch of Chet Baker (£6/£8). A quick hop to the Lion at 1.30 will give you the Martyn Spencer Trio with special guest Hugh Pascall. 2pm sees my band, Cool Jazz, playing in the Arboretum bandstand and there’s still time to celebrate the return of the Malt Cross Sunday Sessions at 5.30 with Jeanie Barton and Liz Cumberland guesting with the house band (Stephen Sherriff, Martyn Spencer and Andrew Wood). This jazztastic day swings to a close with The Lazy Alligators at the Organ Grinder in Arnold at 7.30.
Dexter’s on Tuesday 13th August at Headstocks, Cinderhill, features the Joel Parnell Quartet. Admission is £6 and the music begins at 8.30.
On Wednesday 14th August the young guitarist Henry Claude plays traditional bop and standards at Peggy’s with Sam Shelton on trombone and Martyn Spencer on bass. Thursday sees the Thom Whitworth Trio at Peggy’s, starting at 7pm. To conclude the jazz week on Thursday, Rachael Pennell and Stephen Sherriff (piano) return to the Pelican, starting at 9pm.
