Start your weekend this Friday February 15 with Latin favourites Mas Y Mas; guitarist and singer Rikki Thomas-Martínez is joined by Dalila Thomas-Martínez on ubass and Keith Angel on percussion at Peggy’s Skylight on George Street in Hockley from 7pm; entry is £6.

Paul Deat’s jazz piano accompanies Peggy’s afternoon tea for two (£22) and for one (£12) on Saturday February 16; there’s more than you can eat from 2-5pm. Twice Grammy long-listed guitar supremo Neil C. Young joins Mat Short on bass and Si Potts on drums at Stray’s Coffee in Newark from 3-5pm. Back at Peggy’s; renowned Birmingham based trumpet and flugelhorn player Bryan Corbett returns with his quartet featuring leading members of Birmingham’s jazz scene, Al Gurr on keys, Ben Marlkland on bass and Neil Bullock on drums from 8-10pm, entry from 7pm is £10.

Pianist Duncan Eagles performs for Peggy’s Sunday Brunch on February 17 from 11am-1pm (brunch for one is £14 and for two is £25) he does another show at 1.30pm, both are £7 entry without food. 12 To The Bar are at Newark RAFA Club with John Brennan and Claire Hyatt on vocals from 12-2pm, entry is £3 on the door including a buffet lunch. Guitarist Nik Svarc’s Trio features Gary Jackson on bass and Dave Walsh on drums at The Lion in Basford from 1.30-3.30pm. Pianist Bob Hudson’s Trio features vocalist Joanna Hudson at the Bonington Theatre Bar in Arnold at 7.30pm, entry is £6 – expect a varied selection of songs from Roberta flack to Tony Bennett. The Nottingham Jazz Orchestra return to the Federation Club in Claremont Road, Sherwood where Mike Lovatt (lead trumpet with the BBC Big Band and The John Wilson Orchestra) joins the band for a very special night; entry is £10/8, tickets are available online in advance from the priority booking site.

Suave singer Cat Mancini leads his band at The Bell Inn on Angel Row on Monday February 18 from 8.30-10.30pm while the Alfa Big Swing Band swing into The Village Inn in Marehay, Ripley from 8.15pm.

Hear swing and Latin hits by the Cappuccino Kids at Crimson Tree on Wednesday February 20 from 7.30pm. Legendary pianist Martin Bennett brings his Old Green River Band to Risley Park Jazz Club for an evening of classic New Orleans style jazz from 8-10.30pm, admission is £9.

It’s Jazz Discovery Thursday at Peggy’s on February 21 featuring Thom Whitworth on guitar leading his trio; entry is £5 from 7pm. Jazz Steps present VEIN Trio with Stan Sulzman on saxophone, Michael Arbenz on the grand piano, Thomas Lähns on bass and Florian Arbenz on drums – they blend the complexity of European classical chamber music with the thrills and energy of jazz. Tickets are £12/5 in advance from the Bonington Theatre and their show starts at 8pm.
