NATIVE HARROW
SHARE NEW SINGLE & VIDEO FOR ‘HAPPIER NOW’
NEW ALBUM ‘HAPPIER NOW’ OUT 2ND AUGUST ON LOOSE
“It’s hard to be utterly timeless and refreshingly original, but Native Harrow manages it with ease.” – Folk Radio
Native Harrow share Happier Now – the title track from their debut Loose release, due out on 2nd August. The title track follows on from last month’s Something You Have as the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album.

“‘Happier Now’ is essentially my own anthem,” says singer-songwriter Devin Tuel, who performs under her nom de plume of Native Harrow, alongside her multi-instrumentalist bandmate Stephen Harms. The song was born out of exhaustion over others demanding of her a “happy sing-songy attitude”, both in life and in songwriting. “For the most part, I tend to write from the more melancholy and challenging aspects of human life,” she tells Folk Radio
“So often I have had to defend a song, my attitude, and my career choices to others. ‘Happier Now’ is a sort of passive-aggressive way of me saying I can write a happy song if it makes YOU feel good. But I won’t because that’s not who I am and the older I get the easier it gets to let it all go. I’m interested in realness and looking difficulties square in the face.”
The music video concept was put together with the help and execution of Maya Oren, who filmed and edited the video. It sees former ballerina Devin Tuel swaying with the wind amongst the trees, the visuals adding to the effect of her soothing vocals and the laid-back vintage feel of the music.
“I love the woods and the contrast between the sun and the wind, the light and the grey. I wanted to capture the simplicity of nature and let the lyrics ring out. My movements are informed by the lyrics and also inspired by the way the grass bends in the wind and the way the leaves flutter effortlessly in their own dance; teaching me how to be free.”
Happier Now will receive its European release via Loose (Damien Jurado, Courtney Marie Andrews, Israel Nash, The Handsome Family) on 2nd August 2019. Native Harrow play The Long Road Festival on 7th September, plus dates in Nottingham and Newcastle with more UK tour dates to be announced soon.
