The bones are back in town! Root Down with Dennis Rollins’ Funky Funk at Peggy’s Skylight on George Street in Hockley; doors open at 7pm, tickets are £15 standing or £25 seated dining, which includes £5 redeemable on food.
Saturday October 26
I’m singing with pianist Bob Hudson at a Parkinson’s UK fundraiser danceathon at the Beeston Ryland’s Community Centre at 1.30pm organised by the wonderful Janet Barnes – call in from 10am to donate and help them keep going for the full 25 hours! Soft drinks are provided but bring your own booze. Jo Harrop sings Peggy Lee at Peggy’s (different Peggys by the way) at 7pm, entry is £10/12. There is also afternoon tea at the same venue accompanied by Paul Deats’ jazz piano between 12 and 5pm.
Sunday October 27
It’s the mighty Hockley Hustle at Peggy’s Skylight – a whole day of jazz starting with Shell’s Belles at 12.30pm, Lucas Walters at 1.30pm, Angels In The Architecture at 2.30pm, Ed Marchewicz at 3.30pm, Bumblin’ Bees at 4.30pm, Malindy at 5.30pm, Red Sea at 6.30pm, Swing Gitan at 7.30pm, Stickmanoeuvres at 8.30pm, Me and Mr Jones at 9.30pm and Broadstrokes at 10.30pm. Wrist bands for this and all venues are available from the Hockley Hustle website for £16. Swing Gitan have a double gig day as they are also at the Lion in Basford from 1.30-3.30pm. Back in Beeston The Dan Collective will be performing the music of a Steely Dan at the Star Inn at 8.15pm featuring Chris Watts vocals/keys, Ian Hill saxophone, Frank McCarthy guitar, Tom Bull bass and Ian Beestin on drums. Entry is £5 on the door.

The Alpha Big Swing Band return to the Village Inn in Marehay, Ripley, featuring Mark Daykin on vocals at 7.30pm.
Wednesday October 30
Voyager Quintet are of some of the best young musicians to come from the thriving Northern jazz scene, they visit Peggy’s from 7pm. From the North West, piano stylist Malcolm Hogarth brings his all-star 6 piece band The Dee-Side Dixies to Risley Park Jazz Club at 8pm, admission is £9
Thursday October 31
Jazz Steps present Josephine Davies’ Satori at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold at 8pm; named after a Buddhist word meaning a moment of illumination or clarity away from the clutter of thought, their minimalist line up is Josephine on tenor sax, Dave Whitford on bass and James Maddren on drums. Entry is £12/5 NUS. New Orleans Heat perform at The Unwin Club, Unwin Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield at 8.30pm, entry is £7/6 for members. Guitarist Mike De Souza’ Trio are at Peggy’s from 7pm.
