New Arts Venue in Nottingham To Provide Much-Needed Home For Creativity and Community To Thrive

A brand new arts space dedicated to creativity, culture and community in the heart of Nottingham is opening its doors to the public for the first time this month.

Fisher Gate Point is inviting people to a special launch event on Saturday March 8th — International Women’s Day – to explore the vibrant new venue, ahead of the public opening on Monday 10 March.

Everyone is welcome to the launch event on 8 March between 6pm-11pm to see what the space has to offer, meet the people behind the venture, enjoy the brand new cafe bar, browse the artisan shop and experience live entertainment from the Fisher Gate Point community.

Fisher Gate Point is the brainchild of Tricia and Ian Gardiner, the founding directors, who have realised a long-held ambition to create a welcoming community-led space where Nottingham’s creative grassroots sector can thrive.

They first received the keys to the building just before the UK’s first lockdown in 2020. Through sheer determination, a vast creative network, and years of cultural experience, they are now throwing open their doors to the wider public.

Founding director Ian Gardiner said: “We believe in the power of the arts and community to change lives, and we recognised that individual artists, small community groups and grassroots companies delivering hands-on interactive events and workshops needed a space to feel at home.

“We think we have created a positive space for that to happen in Nottingham for now and for future generations. Everyone is welcome here and we all want to collaborate. Come and get involved!”

Over the last five years, Fisher Gate Point has organically grown into a beating heart of Nottingham’s creative sector, providing a home to both emerging and established artists, cultural leaders, and young collectives. Following a significant refurbishment, the space is ready to open its doors and welcome the public into its thriving multi-use community hub.

Whether attending a live event, participating in a workshop, hiring a space, or simply visiting the café, the venue offers opportunities for people to connect, create and collaborate.

The two-storey multi-use venue has already become home to several key organisations in Nottingham’s creative sector, including Hockley Hustle, Nottingham Poetry Festival, Cherry on Top, Circle of Light, Sugar Stealers, The Actors Workshop, Nottingham CYF, Nottingham Music Hub and HOAM, the city’s first female-led music studio.

These groups contribute to a diverse and growing programme of live music, theatre, comedy, immersive performances, DJ courses for women and gender-expansive people, music & wellbeing projects for young people and a men’s mental health project.

It offers a range of flexible hire options for live performances, workshops, rehearsals and co-working, with a downstairs capacity of 110 and an upstairs capacity of 150.

Alongside the event space, the new café and bar will serve as a central gathering point, offering freshly made sandwiches, soups, artisan pizzas, and small plates, alongside roasted coffee, teas, craft beers, wines and signature cocktails.

The café bar opening hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 10am – 11pm
  • Friday – Saturday: 10am – Midnight
  • Sunday: 10am – 11pm
