From giant tortoises to world class show jumping, visitors from across the country descended on Newark Showground this weekend (14 and 15 May) for the 133rd Nottinghamshire County Show.

The show saw a huge range of attractions with something to appeal to everyone. An action charged display from the Portsmouth Field Gun display team drew in the crowds to the main ring while the young farmers also wowed the crowds with their extremely popular lawnmower racing.

Jayne Olney, the show manager said: “It’s been great to see so many families enjoying the show. There has been a fantastic atmosphere over the two days and of course the sun added to everyone’s enjoyment of the day.

“The gate numbers were up by just over 1,000 this year – and I would like to thank all of the exhibitors, our stewards and the show team who have worked to make the show a success. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2017!”

On both days, crowds looked to the skies in awe of a flypast by the Battle of Britain Hurricane flown by Squadron Leader Mark “Disco” Discombe.

Morris dancers from across Nottinghamshire and BMX stuntman kept families entertained in the Lincs FM performance ring.

Impressive floral art displays large and small filled the hall of the new Lady Eastwood Centre and hundreds of vintage cars and tractors were on display for the public to view.

Famous for showcasing the best of British agriculture Nottinghamshire County Show lived up to its impeccable reputation. Over the course of the weekend it had 100 heavy horses, over 850 light horses and hundreds more entries for the sheep, cattle, pigs, and goats classes.

The show is now the only county show in the country which offers classes for the four main breeds of heavy horses.

President of the 133rd show, Geoffrey Bond, OBE, DL FSA, said: “It has been an outstanding show this year – one of the best in the country.

“The weekend has been a fantastic showcase of British farming and also a brilliant opportunity to inspire the future farming community.”
