A West Bridgford community organisation needs 40 volunteers to walk on hot coals – in order to raise much-needed funds.
Imara, a not-for-profit organisation in West Bridgford which supports children, teenagers and families who have experienced child sexual abuse, is hosting the fire walk at Notts County Meadow Lane Football Ground this Thursday (14 April).
Every person taking part will receive training on the night before they embark on the walk on hot coals. Each participant is being asked to pay £10 and also raise £50 in donations.
Tamsin Baldwin OBE, who heads Imara, said: “We would love people to volunteer to take part in our event. Unlike cycling or marathon fundraisers, the hot coal challenge doesn’t require you to have undertaken any prior training, this will all be provided on the night.
“This may seem like a scary challenge for volunteers as the coals do reach 1,200 degrees fahreinheit, but in fact it is extremely empowering, it helps people conquer their fears, as well as raising vital funds for our service.”
Imara aims to promote the recovery of children, teenagers and their families after a discovery of child abuse. It assists individuals by providing specialist assessment and referrals on to appropriate support agencies and support in accessing pre-trial therapy where it is required.
The event at Notts County Football Ground is open to everyone – to take part in the hot coal challenge, or simply to come along and support. There will be food, a bar, raffle, cake stalls and DJ so a fun night for all concerned, Tamsin added.
Imara aims to provide information and support in a sensitive and responsive way to support children, teenagers and their families.
“We are such a small organisation, fundraising is crucial to our service,” added Tamsin.
£10 will allow Imara care workers to travel 25 miles to see clients who need home visits. £50 pays for a full day of visits for a car worker and £100 provides a therapeutic assessment. Every person taking part is being asked to pay £10 and also raise £50 in donations.
The event starts from 6pm on Thursday for firewalkers and 7.30pm for spectators. Email info@imara.org.uk for more information, or make a donation at www.localgiving.org/fundraising/imarafirewalk2016/
