News/Food: Welbeck Announces John Eastwood Hospice as its ‘Charity of the Year’

The award-winning Welbeck Farm Shop, on the Welbeck Estate near Worksop, has announced John Eastwood Hospice in Sutton in Ashfield as its ‘Charity of the Year’ after asking its customers to nominate organisations doing good work in the community.

Customers put forward local charities based within 15 miles of the shop and more than 35 nominations were received. Staff at the Farm Shop reviewed all the nominations and eventually selected John Eastwood Hospice, which will be the focus of Welbeck Farm Shop’s fundraising and support for the year ahead. This will include customer donations, fundraising events, and supporting activities within the hospice.

John Eastwood Hospice provides nursing and medical care for patients with advanced cancer and other conditions requiring specialist palliative care such as Motor Neurone Disease. Founded in 1985, it cares for hundreds of people every year and relies on voluntary donations for its work.

Ollie Stubbins, Welbeck Farm Shop Manager, said: “The shop has always supported local charities but we wanted to more significantly make a difference as we are very much a community shop. Adopting a ‘Charity of the Year’ will allow us to achieve this.

“We would like to thank all of the customers who voted, and thank all of the fantastic charities involved. We’re very much looking forward to supporting John Eastwood Hospice.”

The partnership will not only raise vital funds, but will also help us to promote our specialist palliative care services in the community. Welbeck Farm Shop opens Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm, and here visitors can support the John Eastwood Hospice.
