Nottinghamshire teens experienced an adrenalin rush in Sherwood Forest this weekend in the run-up to completing a once-in-a-lifetime scheme.
More than 200 16 to 17-year-olds turned their hand to archery and axe throwing, completed assault courses and battled it out in a game of human table football at Adrenalin Jungle – the largest outdoor activity centre in the East Midlands.
The ice-breaker activity event gave teens from across Nottinghamshire the chance to meet before they complete this summer’s National Citizen Service (NCS) programme – a government-backed, part-residential initiative which provides activities, skills-focussed workshops and volunteering or fundraising for local charities and community groups.
Don Logan, owner of Adrenalin Jungle said: “It was great to have so many young people have a go at something new, build confidence, make friends and most importantly have fun!
“You could see the change in the youngsters throughout the day – many starting off self-conscious or nervous, but by the end of the day they got stuck in, working in teams and having a laugh. Many of our activities are suitable for people from eight to 80-years-old and we’ve found that outdoor entertaining activities are great ice-breakers and confidence builders for people of all ages.”
Nigel Oldham, NCS programme manager for Vision West Nottinghamshire College said: “I’ve been using Adrenalin Jungle as an ice-breaker venue for many years now, because the site is well organised, the activities are second-to-none and the equipment is excellent. Our NCS participants are able to try something completely new, which gives them a taste of what to expect when they are on the summer programme.”
Activities at Adrenalin Jungle start from just £20 for adults and those suitable for children aged eight and above are just £15 for the children. Activities require groups of six or more so are perfect for families.
