As ever there are some fantastic live comedy shows taking place across Nottingham during March and we figured we’d offer up our pick of the best to check out.
FEATURED COMEDY SHOW: STEWART LEE – A ROOM WITH A STEW – Royal Concert Hall – 26 March
He’s one of the most respected and outspoken comedians in the country – not to mention a fan of Nottingham’s very own Sleaford Mods and he’s bringing his latest show to Nottingham this month, which will no doubt be a must catch show – hence it being our pick of the month.
Having started off as part of comedy duo Lee & Herring with Richard Herring (who played at Glee this February), Lee is now best known for his award winning BBC show Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle the third series of which is now available to buy.
Nobody is safe from critique when it comes to Lee, not even himself, but his thoughtful, insightful comedy always makes you think and is generally spot on, hence his cult like fan base.
If you haven’t checked out Stewart Lee yet this is the perfect time to do so.
Also this month:
Pub landlord, and now political candidate, AL MURRAY brings his show to Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday 1 March. Al’s shows are far more clever than people often realise with his Pub Landlord character shining a brilliant light on the “little Englander” attitude, while his interaction with the crowd is second to none.
Breaking Bad is one of the greatest TV shows of the century, if not all time, and now you can catch ONE MAN BREAKING BAD courtesy of LA actor Miles Allen, we’re not entirely sure how this is going to work but we reckon it’s going to be well worth checking out. You can catch the show at the Playhouse on 23 March.
A day later the Playhouse will host the latest show from long time Mock the Week mainstay ALAN PARSONS followed by a third successive night of comedy courtesy of COUNT ARTHUR STRONG on Wednesday 25.
Rounding up March at the Playhouse is ITV2 star ELLIE TAYLOR who brings her Edinburgh fringe show Elliementary to Nottingham on Friday 27.
Down at The Glee Club you can, as ever, catch weekly comedy shows with this months guests including ANGELA BARNES, SEAN PERCIVAL, TIFFANY STEVENSON and, the brilliantly named, REVEREND OBADIAH STEPPENWOLF III.
There are also two of comedy’s top names stopping off on their latest tours. First up, on Thursday 19 March, will be veteran comic TONY HAWKS who blends storytelling, stand up, musical comedy and film clips to create a show that will recount the amusing, and sometimes fraught, story of how he went from being “comedian and author” to “comedian, author and film-maker”.
Meanwhile at the end of the month the much loved and always hugely entertaining SEANN WALSH returns to Nottingham for another of his fast-paced, look at life shows, sadly this show, on Sunday 29 March, has already sold out but it promises to be a great night of laughs for those who have got a ticket.
As ever there will be great guests weekly at Just the Tonic with the likes of ERIC LAMPAERT, ANDREW O’NEILL and PHIL ELLIS appearing there during the month.
So as you can see plenty of laughs to be had this month, we’ll be back next month with a look at the laughs to be had in April, in the meantime enjoy whatever you get along to.
