Emmanuel House is an independent charity in Nottingham providing day support services for homeless and vulnerably housed people. They provide a drop-in centre and services that contribute to physical health and well-being and empower individuals to make positive changes in their lives.
With the numbers of people counted rough sleeping in Nottingham having increased from 13 people last year up to 40 people this year Emmanuel House is needed more than ever. Winter is the busiest time of year with many people at risk of losing their lives if they are left out in the cold.
Emmanuel House serves an average of 80 hot meals every day and also manages The Nottingham Winter Shelter which provides emergency accommodation for rough sleepers between November and April. Emmanuel House is the only open access service of this type within Nottingham.
They receive no statutory funding and they are entirely dependent donations and good will to provide a range support and essential survival services to support people to reconnect and resettle permanently within the community.
Clive Sillito, Chair of the Board of Trustees said, “The increasing numbers of homeless people and those rough sleeping in Nottingham this year is a huge concern and has increased the demands on our services. Emmanuel House will strive to meet the needs of people who urgently require shelter, food and support throughout the year but we can only meet their needs with the support of the local community.”
“The Gift of Hope Campaign aims to raise the funds to enable Emmanuel house to continue into its 40th year of serving the most vulnerable people in the community and to keep people out of the cold this winter”
The gift of Hope campaign encourages everyone to add Emmanuel House to your Christmas list and purchase A Gift of Hope by making a one off donation or becoming a friend of Emmanuel House and helping them to plan the support they can offer by making a regular donation.
Emmanuel House is expecting a higher demand for its services during this year’s festive season due to a national increase of homelessness and will need to increase funding to be able to respond to service users needs.
Denis Tully CEO of Emmanuel House said, “We are committed to meeting the ever increasing challenges by providing responsive, flexible and professional services to people who are homeless. The Gift of Hope is an opportunity for the community to make a contribution to overcoming those challenges and know that their donation is channeled directly into appropriate support that will make a real difference”
In the first half of 2016 Emmanuel house saw 1181 different service users many accessed the service multiple times and have engaged with support workers to reconnect with family, work towards permanent resettlement or return to their country of origin. During 2015 we had 22,418 separate visits to the centre and we can already see this number has risen significantly through 2016.
You can help us to support people who are homeless and isolated from family and friends and who need a place to come out of the cold by sharing the gift of hope this winter.
Please include Emmanuel House on your Christmas list this year and give the gift of hope. It’s an easy thing to do and will make a real difference to someone who doesn’t know where they will be sleeping tonight.
