Hundreds of paints, pens and other art supplies are being donated to Nottingham-based charity, PASIC, by a contact centre.
Originally established as The Parents’ Association for Seriously Ill Children, the donation to PASIC was made by Domestic & General, a leading appliance care firm with a branch in Talbot Street. The firm has pledged support to PASIC as its chosen regional charity for 2016.
Based on ward E39 of Nottingham Children’s Hospital, PASIC provides practical, financial and social support to children and young people living with cancer, their family and carers. The charity aims to give children and families the means to build support networks, reduce isolation and offer financial assistance, helping to make a positive difference to families whose children’s lives have been impacted by cancer.
Louise Whittle, operations and fundraising manager at PASIC, said: “Children with cancer can spend a long time in hospital and this can be really difficult for them. At PASIC we aim to make sure that their time is as good as it can be.
“The art supplies that Domestic & General has donated will be put to good use in art workshops and will help keep the children entertained on the ward.”
Domestic & General has donated 100 pots of paint, 21 rolls of sellotape, 28 packs of felt tip pens, 27 rolls of string, 29 pritt sticks and 25 pairs of scissors.
Louise added: “Staff in hospitals provide amazing support but sometimes it is not enough and that is where we like to think we fit in. We provide an extra layer of support services for children and their families both in and out of hospital. Being told your child has cancer is an unthinkable shock and families need support from more than where they receive treatment. We are here to let Nottinghamshire families know they are not alone.”
Craig White, UK customer service director at Domestic & General, said the firm is pleased to be supporting PASIC throughout 2016.
He said: “PASIC is such a wonderful cause and we’re very proud to be supporting them – many of our employees will have experienced first-hand the brilliant care it provides for those affected by cancer.
“This donation is only one of the ways that Domestic & General is planning on supporting PASIC this year.”
Domestic & General launched its initial fundraising initiative for PASIC with its ‘Raise £39’ campaign. Each employee in its 900-strong Nottingham team was challenged to raise £39 to reflect that PASIC is based on ward E39. From the challenge, it’s raised £700 alone so far.
Last year Domestic & General raised and donated £188,022 across the Group to charitable causes.
