More than 150 walkers ventured out on Friday evening for the second Maggie’s Nottingham Culture Crawl, including our Editor, Tanya.  Doubling in numbers from the previous year, walkers had the chance to explore Nottingham by night, discovering cultural, architectural and artistic delights along the way.

The event raised more than £10,000 for Maggie’s Nottingham which is in the grounds of the City Hospital to help it continue supporting people affected by cancer and their family and friends.

Key venues included Lakeside Arts, Wollaton Hall, Nottingham Castle, and the Galleries of Justice Museum.

The nine-mile walk was led by local tour guide Richard Brackenbury from Notts-based firm Brackenbury’s Britain. Richard said: “We have so much interesting history and heritage on our doorstep here in Nottingham and many of us pass by it on a daily basis without noticing the treasures on offer.

“I was thrilled to be asked to lead the Culture Crawl for Maggie’s and we had a fantastic evening adventure taking in the sights of some of the city’s most beautiful and intriguing places, all in aid of a very worthy cause. Maggie’s does incredible work and I’m pleased I can share my knowledge of the area for the good of the charity.”

Sophie Clarkson from Midland Conference Services who took part said: ‘Maggie’s Nottingham was chosen as our company’s Charity of the Year and we were really excited to be able to take part in this amazing event to help raise funds. On the evening we had exclusive access to some of Nottingham’s iconic venues and discover places that we never knew existed, it was lots of fun.”

Maggie’s Nottingham is a warm and welcoming place, with qualified professionals on hand to offer an evidence-based core programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

The Centre has been providing support for people with cancer and their family and friends, across Nottinghamshire for nearly 5 years. It was designed by Piers Gough and opened in 2011 by Sir Paul Smith.

Kate Martin, Centre Head of Maggie’s Nottingham, who volunteered on the evening, said: “After 10 years of spectacular Culture Crawl events in London it’s wonderful to have a Maggie’s Culture Crawl taking place right here, taking in the sights and cultural gems of Nottingham. As a charity Maggie’s Nottingham relies on donations to continue to develop our unique, high quality programme of cancer support so events like this are vital for raising funds.”
