Nestling in the shadow of big brother Motorpoint Arena, the live music venue Saltbox on Bolero Square is intent on forging its own place in the city’s buzzing music scene.
A stacked events calendar put together by experienced booker Samuel Heaton, now Saltbox General Manager, signals the ambitions for the 542-capacity city centre venue.
With a commitment to supporting local music, upcoming shows include Cages for Preachers, Eyre Llew, Mollie Ralph, Marvin’s Revenge and Set In Motion (being their biggest hometown show to date).
This year has already seen Saltbox host a sold out show by Frank Turner during his successful attempt to break a Guinness World Record for most shows in different cities in the space of 24 hours, all in support of Music Venue Trust.
Saltbox General Manager Samuel Heaton said: “We’ve got a heap of shows in the works which are close to being announced. Many have opportunities for local supports too across a wide range of genres, so we’re looking forward to giving local artists opportunities to play.”
The Music Venue Trust’s Fightback Lager – created to raise funds to support grassroots live music venues – is also on sale in the venue, for those who want to support their local music scene.
Later this summer, the King of Funk and Soul will be taking over Saltbox.
