Pint of Science, the annual national festival that takes science to the masses by presenting talks and events at bars and pubs, is returning this month and, once again, Nottingham will be one of the host cities with some fantastic events to check out for those of a curious nature.
The festival runs from 19-24 May and will take place at six venues in Notts, each with a different theme, so there is plenty to enjoy whatever your scientific interests or curiosities.
At the Blind Rabbit, on Weekday Cross, the theme is Atoms to Galaxies with talks on subjects such as Quantum Lego, Microfabrication, the search for dark matter, and brewing beer sustainably. The Canal House will be focusing on Planet Earth and you can learn about how behaviour is used to study the welfare of elephants, the new galleries at Wollaton Hall, life across time, and more. At the Tap House on Byard Lane the focus is on tech with Tech Me Out, find out about quantum computing, the sensory experience of beer, mind uploading – science fiction or science?, cyber security, AI and more.
For something a little different Creative Reactions at The Carousel has teamed up artists and scientists to present both art and science in new and unique ways.
Meanwhile, just outside the city, over in Beeston there are two great new venues for the festival. At Beeston Social, situated in the new entertainment complex in the town centre, it’s all about us with Our Body, you can take a travel through time to look at the past, present and future of cancer, hear about astropharmacy, managing pain through physical activity and the anatomy of (f)MRI. While over at The Lounge Bar on Beeston High Road, the Beautiful Mind takes a dive into our brains which includes a look at why Nottinghamshire’s sports clubs are so successful at delivering mental health interventions, research into psychosis, and what visual illusions can teach us about how we perceive the world.
As you can see there is a huge array of fantastic events happening across the festival, so why not head along and hear some fantastic scientific talks while enjoying a nice pint.
We will have much more on the Pint of Science festival, including interviews and reviews, in the coming weeks – in the meantime check out the festival website for all information on events and to book your tickets.
