“Do you know what we are mate? We are kings. We are something very bloody special indeed mate, very special and I don’t mean special bloody needs, I just mean special.”

An exciting new local play brimming with black humour is making its premiere at Nottingham Playhouse Theatre on Wednesday 20th April.

Scripted by Nottingham-born playwright, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, it celebrates the strong friendships of a group of men living in a Nottingham hostel. One of the residents, Wayne, is finally moving into his own flat, forcing his friends to examine their own lives over Jaffa Cakes, Special Brew and a bit of a sing song.

It has been said that this play will burst with the energy of the chaotic lives lived by the group and shows how friendship and dignity can thrive in the most unexpected places. Essentially, however, what Kings asks us to do is consider the impact that austerity measures have on the most vulnerable client groups in society.

This world premiere production is cast authentically with both able bodied and disabled actors, and two actors who are making their professional acting debut; one an actor with Downs Syndrome, the other an amputee, reflecting the conscious decision by Nottingham Playhouse to incorporate people with disabilities within creative programming. Nottingham Playhouse is pushing forwards to mainstream disability arts, to accelerate positive change and to stimulate awareness of disability issues within arts and culture.

Fiona Buffini, Associate Director at Nottingham Playhouse, said: “The really exciting thing about Kings is that the characters are such unique and diverse individuals. Similarly with the casting- there’s such a range of experiences in the room, we’re all going to be learning so much from each other. ”

Showing from 20-30th April for only £15. For more information and to book tickets head to www.nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk
