This Sunday, if you head along to the Lakeside Arts Theatre at Highfields, you can spend an hour in the company of a woman known by her neighbours as “The Mad Cat Lady”.
After a successful Edinburgh run SUSAN CALMAN has hit the road with her brand new show Lady Like in which the chirpy Scot promises to reassure you, make you feel better about yourself and inform you what it means to really be lady like, via the form of anecdotes, observations and no holds barred honesty.
Having given up law to take up comedy Calman has not looked back, early achievements included reaching the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2005, a Best MC Chortle Award in 20012 and the Read Radio Scottish Variety Award for Best New Scottish Comedian in 2009. TV appearances have varied from appearing as a panelist on the likes of QI, Would I Lie to You? and BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz to appearances in Rab C. Nesbitt, Blowout and CBBC’s Extreme School.
This summer, as well as her Edinburgh run, Calman also presented Don’t Drop the Baton a BBC Comedy broadcast during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and STV show The Lie, while her BBC Radio 4 show Susan Calman Is Convicted, in which the comic explored issues she feels strongly about, began airing in April.
Calman will also host a new BBC Radio 2 panel show, Listomania, which explores the world of list – from the humble to-do list to the finality of the bucket list, which launches in 2015.
