Being a child of the early eighties, it would have been hard not to have come into contact with the iconic sounds and unmistakable rhythms of Glam Rock superstars, T-Rex.

Classics like ‘Get It On (bang a gong)’ and ‘We Love to Boogie’ seem to stir most of us into at least a foot tapping frenzy. Such was their power to move people, they rightly earned their position on the immortality spectrum, destined to be heard through the generations amongst the other rock legends.

So, as you see, being somewhat of a T-Rex fan, I was really looking forward to experiencing this musical performance that’s receiving rave reviews as it tours the UK. Based around the life of T-Rex frontman, lead vocalist and lead guitarist, Marc Bolan, the play relives his relatively short but very fruitful musical career before he sadly passed away age 29 years in a car accident not long before his 30thbirthday.

But, as history has shown us, only the good die young. And we were treated to an invigorating and lively show reliving Marc’s early adulthood as he formed the band ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex’. Marc’s ambition and self-belief to be a rock star drove him to meet up with some of the 70s era’s great musical enablers and producers.

With great struggle, belief and genuine poetic and musical skills, we live through the early years, the touring, the sexual encounters, the parties, the fame, drugs, booze and tribulations that any rock star on the planet would hope to experience. Engaging performances from all the actors retold his story very well, and with the frequent classic T-Rex beauties punctuating the perfomance, everyone in the audience were clearly enjoying themselves and some were even dancing in the aisles (always a clear sign 😉

If you fancy an upbeat rock ‘n’ roll evening, you’d do well catching this.
