Review: Dear Santa

Dear-Santa-SLx
Friday saw the start of a month of seasonal shows at the Theatre Royal with the show Dear Santa. The place was packed with primary school children (and younger), who were clearly super excited to be there, hence a delay in starting as the poor teachers were desperately trying to get not only the seating sorted but also cookies and drinks, sadly there wasn’t enough for everyone! From the moment it started the kids were gripped, the energy level within the theatre was high, no doubt aided by the pre-show cookies!

The set was beautifully detailed, split in two, Santa’s present store in Lapland and Sarah’s bedroom, the little girl the story was set around. The story itself had a lovely moral to it, Sarah had written a letter telling Santa she didn’t need presents as she had enough toys and to give her present to the children who didn’t have any. However Santa went and spoiled (SPOILER ALERT) this by giving her a kitten, now I know its well publicised that a puppy isn’t just for Christmas but surely Santa knows that kittens are also a huge responsibility?

Anyway…the story also address the dilemma most of us have this time of year of what present to get someone when they say they don’t want anything, just don’t go following in Santa’s footsteps and go buying people kittens.

The show had a bit of everything to keep the kids entertained, sing along songs, arts and crafts and even gave a couple of the children the opportunity to get up on stage and get involved. The ideal start to the festive month, for more seasonal treats visit www.trch.co.uk
