Review: Father Brown

“Oh God!”

says one of our cast to Father Brown on more than one occasion, with many an apology, this play is set in the winter of 1906 , taking the Lord’s name in vain, blasphemy would have normally caused offence to a catholic priest such as Father Brown. But I have to agree, Oh God!

The Classic Thriller Season 2016 continued last night at the Theatre Royal, with Father Brown- The Curse of the Invisible Man. The play had 4 cast members all with lots of dialogue, lots of dialogue, and not a lot of action, with minimal set changes and as far I could see only one change of costume, what am I saying really, the play was story telling rather than drama, it was at a pedestrian paced first half. For the first time in going to the Theatre Royal, I noticed the chairs were slightly uncomfortable and was routing in my bag for sustenance.

The highlight part was naturally John Lyons (seen on TV , A Touch Of Frost) as he takes the Father stroke amateur detective role like a duck to water, however even he has his work cut out, solving this mystery.

To find out who the killer is or if it’s all a bit of a curse, get yourself off to the Theatre Royal tonight for 7.30pm. Tickets cost from a very reasonable £11.
