Comedy and magic are unusual bedfellows however; Lee Mack with his sidekick Mike Gunn combined both aspects very well. Mack’s new hotly anticipated routine certainly didn’t disappoint, and neither did Gunn in the warm up.
Both sets were introduced with engaging observational gags with the front row, however, Mack interacted with sections left, right, back and centre and concluded with a highly amusing and innovative question and answer session before his fabulous encore.
Gunn touched on and poked fun at the themes that we all can and will relate to at some point in our lives, such as popular culture, parenthood and gender related idiosyncrasies. The jokes became blue and so did the language as the show went on. Mack, however, made Gunn look a very pale turquoise as he was at least fifty shades bluer in topic and language, but you couldn’t help but laugh at his high energy banter and sharp one liners. His new material was most definitely well crafted and it was apparent that Mack was enjoying his show just as much as the audience – it was very much a symbiotic belly laugh exchange.
Smile yourself to the Royal Concert Hall and come out with a mild abdominal work out and laughing on the back of a magical performance! If you’re lucky enough to go see him you’ll understand what I mean.
