Turning up at The Bodega just before half five, people were already queuing for tonight’s gig. After chatting to band member Ryan Hamilton (you can check out the interview here) I was lucky enough to join the other VIP guests as we were treated to a special set from the band, followed by a meet and greet. The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and you could feel the buzz in the air in anticipation for the impending gig.
Kicking off the night was DANNY GRUFF. Danny usually performs with his band Danny Gruff and the Peacemakers but tonight he treated us to a wonderful acoustic set. Stand out songs from his set included “Wikipedia” and “Hangover” both of which had the crowd in stitches. Danny had a brilliant rapport with the crowd and his set received a great reaction. He is definitely one I will be watching out for on the music scene and you should too!
Next up on the stage was Nottingham’s very own LACEY. This was the first time I’ve managed to catch this band play and by the time they took to the stage the Bodega was heaving with fans. There were clearly a large number of Lacey fans among the crow withe the band receiving a great reaction from the crowd, who energetically joined in with the songs. The atmosphere was awesome, and the rapport with the crowd was great and I could have listened to them for far longer than the played. On this performance it’s no surprise they’re making such a name for themselves.
Finally it was time for the headline act, and the band everybody had been waiting for PEOPLE ON VACATION – you seriously need to catch these guys live! The banter between RyRy (Sorry Ryan) and Jaret (best known for being front man of the ace Bowling for Soup) had everyone in stitches including their fellow band members Rob Lane and Micheal Richards. At one point they even got a member from the crowd, Stacey, to hold up the lyrics to one of their songs which had to be a amazing experience. Their set was amazing, performing songs such as “You May Not Believe In God” a cover of Bowling For Soups “Bitch Song”, “Punk Rock World” and even a cover of Slade’s “Cum on feel the noise” the guys are just full of energy and the crowd certainly fed off it. Next time these guys come to town you should make sure to check them out. You’ll be extremely glad you did.
