Steel Panthers in my hometown, with a photo pass; thank you kindly.
I am so glad they are touring and not doing arenas they work so much better on a smaller gig level, so Rock City was born for this! The crowd really turned out in force for this one with another sell out event; very much standing room only but not as heavy as other sold out gigs I have been to here.
That said photographing from the pit is always an interesting area to be; between the crowd and the reason they are here. This was even more unusual with the long introductions before Asian hooker which led to all the photographers having a little sit down while this happened. But the energy that flowed after was brilliant.
The set list was short but they kept the crowd going with the insults to the crowd and each other that make a Steel Panthers gig what it is. It’s hard to believe that this is a turned down version of their older banter which, having had the pleasure to see them in their home town was very much restrained to this audience.
The main ingredient of the songs were the older crowd favourites building to a trio of Death To All But Metal, Community Property and Party all Day. With 17 Girls in a Row having the stage filed with girls. If you see a Steel Panthers gig and leave with anything less than a high you really didn’t get it. I just wonder what next for the band, I am not sure they can shock further but they can sure play.
