This weekend sees Julia Donaldson’s wonderful Room on the Broom brought to life on the stage by Tall Stories productions.
Whilst we took to our seats the cast wandered around the stalls and immediately captivated the young audience with their chatter chatter about camping and an impromptu interactive game of hide and seek. It was clearly a sell out, however the atmosphere was relaxed, the excited buzz from the children never died throughout the whole show, with the occasionally shout out and the continual rustle of snacks it was definitely among the more laissez faire performances I have attended.
This is not to take anything away from the performance and the cast themselves for they did an amazing job. They kept their youthful audiences engaged throughout the hour long show, with the simple set and creative use of minimal they really allowed the young audience to use their imaginations.
This play may have been aimed at the youngsters in the audience but there were more than a couple of genuine laughs and chrouses sang by the adults in the room! By far the best children’s play I’ve seen, no wonder it was so popular that the Theatre Royal had to put on additional performance this Saturday afternoon.
If you’ve missed the chance to see this wonderful production, don’t worry Tall Stories are back with The Gruffalo in July. Tickets available here.
