So we have already taken a look at the Courtyard and Jagermeister stages as a part of our Splendour build up, now in the final part of our preview trilogy we take a look at the big one – the main stage, and boy is it being taken over by Nottingham this year, in fact so much so that Nottingham acts will both OPEN and CLOSE the main stage at this year’s festival.
Opening things up will be the brilliant THE GORGEOUS CHANS who will follow the tradition of past Future Sound of Nottingham winners The Money and The Afterdark Movement in starting the days proceedings – and, as they told us when they came into the NottinghamLIVE Radio Show studio on Wednesday, they have something pretty special lined up. Get down their early and catch these boys as they start things off at 12.30pm.
Following The Gorgeous Chans will be the truly amazing INDIANA, capping off a hell of a 12 or so months, just over a year ago this stunning performer burst onto the scene from nowhere when she made a late entry into the Future Sound of Nottingham competition – blowing all the judges away. Despite not winning she was drafted onto the Courtyard stage and now – following a major label signing, national radio love, a performance in front of THE QUEEN and the release of her debut EP – she returns to Splendour, only this time on the main stage – and who’d bet against her being back next year as headliner.
At 4.30pm one of Nottingham’s best loved bands will take to the stage, DOG IS DEAD were perhaps the first Nottingham band of recent times to attract national attention, and well deserved it was, a perfect festival band these guys will not disappoint as they take to the Splendour main stage for what promises to be a thrilling set.
Rounding things up on the main stage and indeed the whole festival itself is a certain Nottingham musician you may just have heard of, it is of course JAKE BUGG. While many of us around the Nottingham scene had been expecting much of this young singer few of us could have guessed just what impact his debut album would have when it was released last year. Tipped for a Top 10 spot the self titled record blasted into the top spot making Jake the youngest ever male singer to hit number one with a debut album – not to mention the first Nottingham artist to top the album charts.
Things haven’t slowed down since with Jake perform across the world and recently hitting the studio in the States with legendary Johnny Cash producer Rick Rubin as he gets to work on his important second album.
Last year Jake was midway down the Splendour bill, this year though, having already performed one of the stand out sets at Glastonbury, Jake will become the first ever Nottingham act to headline the Splendour festival – and you can’t say he hasn’t earned it.
Make sure you’re down there at 9.30pm to witness Nottingham history.
Also performing on the main stage through the day will be JACK SAVORETTI, NINA NESBITT, KT TUNSTELL and SQUEEZE.
So that wraps up our Splendour Festival 2013 preview, and what a Nottingham-tastic show with, by our quick calculations FIFTEEN Nottingham acts across the three stages during the day – add to that a comedy stage, a cabaret tent, free children’s entertainment, a fairground and a real ale bar, not to mention a prediction for AMAZING weather and all in all this is going to be one hell of a day.
We’ll see you there.
