Splendour Festival: NCN/LeftLion Stage Preview – Wollaton Park – 20 July 2013

This Saturday sees the return of the SPLENDOUR FESTIVAL, Nottingham’s biggest annual music festival, taking place in the beautiful and historic grounds of Wollaton Park this year’s event promises to be more Nottingham-tastic than ever before – with the city’s own music superstar JAKE BUGG headlining proceedings.

In the first of our previews of the festival we take a look at the NCN/LeftLion Courtyard stage, which has, since the launch of the festival, been a showcase of great upcoming Nottingham talent – and what a line up they have this year.

Starting things off will be the wonderful SAM JONES, hailing from North Nottinghamshire this young male star has been gigging for a few years now but has shot to prominence over the last few months. A finalist in this years Future Sound of Nottingham competition, Sam missed out on overall victory to The Gorgeous Chans, but his selection as Judges Choice on the night has earned him a spot on the coveted courtyard stage.

Following on from Sam will be the brilliant duo ONEGIRLONEBOY, risen from the ashes of Patchwork Grace this twosome have wasted no time in making their mark since forming last year. Winners of the inaugural Notts Factor competition last October OneGirlOneBoy have since gone on to wow crowds with some fantastic shows including a sensational EP launch at the Rescue Rooms last month.

RYAN THOMAS will be wowing the Splendour crowd in the Saturday sun with his wonderful bluesy folk sounds, the perfect sound for a mid afternoon Ryan’s fantastic vocals and modern blues style guitar will have you swaying in the midday sun.

If you haven’t heard of GEORGIE ROSE then you’re certainly in for a surprise this Saturday, a truly sensational performer Georgie will captivate you with her beautiful lyrics and what is more she’ll be backed by a full band this Saturday for a must see set.

INJURED BIRDS deliver sensational folk blues sounds that will completely mesmerise you and draw you in, fronted by the insanely talented Sam Kirk their EP Silver Birches is one of the best releases we’ve heard in the last year and we highly recommend you check it out.

JOEL BAKER spends his days in the Houses of Parliament, however at nights he becomes one of the finest musicians to come out of this musical majestic city in some time. Having started off releasing covers by some of his favourite artists Joel is now recording original material that has quickly earned him national radio airplay.

Nottingham’s first sister of soul HARLEIGHBLU is set to take to the Courtyard stage in what is her biggest year to date, having signed with the Tru Thoughts label last year this amazing soul and rnb star has performed and recorded with the likes of Rodney P. With her debut album just around the corner there are HUGE things ahead for this sensational talent – catch her on the courtyard stage this year because next year I reckon you’ll be seeing her on the main one.#

Also appearing on the Courtyard Stage will be GAVIN JAMES and RYAN KEEN.
